Extractions: Baxter Elementry is a K-6th grade school with approximately 775 students enrolled .It is located at the western end of Putnam County and serves the communities of Baxter, Double Springs, Bloomington Springs, Boma, Buffalo Valley, Silver, and Cookeville Boat Dock Road area. Mrs. Donna Shanks has been our principal since 1987 . The school has 46 certified personnel including one full-time principal and one full-time assistant principal. It has 31 noncertified personnel teacher assistants,office personnel,cooks,and custodians. Our main building has been in use since 1968.The kindergarten facilities have been in use since 1952. In January of 1995,a six classroom addition was completed.Three portables were added in 1996 and two more were added this school year. The school has been adopted by three local business. Citizens Bank adopted the school on April 30, 1992. Maynard-Insureance Company and Mid-South Machine and Supply joined Union Planters Bank (formerly Citizens Bank) in adopting Baxter Elementry on April 2 1996. These adopters continually support us in many ways.
