The advocate, advisor, or mentor will assume a personal as well as professional function beyond that usually associated with a homeroom teacher or guidance counselor by ensuring that students have someone on their side, someone closely concerned with their fate, and someone who will help them feel part of the school community. Normally the advocate would meet regularly throughout the year on an individual basis with 12-20 students.
