Programming For Academic Challenge The mission of gifted/talented programming in St. Vrain Valley schools is to provide advanced and differentiated educational services to meet the unique http://www.stvrain.k12.co.us/Districtdept/Learningservices/Student_Services/G_T.
Extractions: Programming for Academic Challenge: IDENTIFICATION PROCESS Questions and Answers What is the purpose of the identification process in St. Vrain? The purpose of the identification process is to find students who match the definition of "gifted/talented" students and show potential for high academic achievement. The purpose is not to "label" students, but rather to determine their strength areas and level of need so that appropriate programming can be recommended for them. How does the process begin? A student may be nominated by a parent or teacher. Parents have an opportunity to nominate their students annually in the fall, by completing and returning a nomination form that goes home with all students. Teachers who wish to nominate students must give those names to the GT resource liaison/teacher at the school. Students may also be flagged by scores above the 92"d percentile on CSAP or Terra Nova tests. What happens once a student is nominated? The student's records are reviewed to determine if there is sufficient evidence to indicate that they require special services to meet their educational needs. "Sufficient evidence" usually means that they are scoring two or more years above grade level in at least one academic area, that they demonstrate characteristics typical of gifted learners (see attached descriptors), that they demonstrate precocious levels of performance in a strength area, and/or that they have cognitive abilities within the superior range. Students are required to demonstrate strengths in two of these four areas.
