As swimmers ready for Long Beach next month, a number of athletes remain dominant, while others have improved considerably. Some are just now realizing their potential. Yet all share a common goal: they want that plane ticket to Athens. From Indianapolis to Long Beach-respective sites of the 2000 and 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials-much has changed on the swimming scene. In the span of four years and 2,000-plus miles, the face of American swimming has undergone a facelift-alterations that have reconfigured our sport.

It's free! Save it. Ann Arbor Pioneer High School became the first girls' team in Michigan's illustrious swimming history to win Swimming World's prestigious national high school title. Some things in life just seem to be a given. It's a given, for instance, that every summer the Yankees will compete for the pennant, Hollywood will release one or two big budget snoozers, and a girls' high school team from one of the two coasts will win Swimming World's national championship. Since the magazine first devised a system for determining an overall high school champion in the mid-1970s, the balance of power has pretty much always teetered between California and Florida. Entering the season, in fact, those two states had captured 15 of a possible 22 titles (separate championships for public and independent schools were held five times during the 1980s).
Cleveland Stater- CSU Pool Deep In Swimming History During the pools history, it has seen many Olympic gold medallists swim andbreak records. Olympic Gold medallists Tom Jager, Pablo Morales and Dianna Munz http://www.csuohio.edu/clevelandstater/Archives/Vol 6/Issue 11/sports/sports4.ht
Extractions: Not many parts of Cleveland State University are ranked in the top 10 in America but Sports Illustrated ranked the Robert F. Busby Natatorium the sixth fastest pool in America in October 2002. The natatorium, located in the Physical Education Building, was opened in 1973 and was known as the Cleveland State Natatorium. At the time of opening it was one of two swimming pools in the state of Ohio that was 50 meters long. The natatorium was renamed The Robert F. Busbey Natatorium in 1999 in recognition of the long-time CSU swim coach and former CSU athletic director. The most compelling thing about this pool was the large gutters and deep water in the competition end of the pool. Along with other features, this made the pool a very fast pool and the NCAA wanted to find out just has fast it was. The division one and division two NCAA national championships were scheduled for CSU for March 1975.This meet was so successful that the NCAA had to hold a national championship in Cleveland again; swimmers and coaches knew that it was a great pool and pressured the NCAA into another visit to Cleveland in 1977. The NCAA division one national championship of 1977 still stands alone in the record books. The NCAA called it the greatest swimmers in the fastest pool at the greatest meet in history. At this historic meet 16 NCAA records were broken, the most records broken in a single meet; this had never been done before and has never been done since. The pool was truly the best in the United States of America.

IU President Indiana University research center to study science of swimming BLOOMINGTON, Ind. A research center to study swimming is being created at the Indiana University School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) to honor legendary IU swim coach James "Doc" Counsilman. "There are several goals for the Counsilman Center for the Science of Swimming, which will house Doc's personal archives and reflect his enthusiasm and vision," explained Joel Stager, a HPER faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and director of the IU Human Performance Laboratory. "As an independent research center, we want to study new training techniques and technology in swimming," Stager said. "We also want to describe the benefits of swimming in terms of health and wellness, assess competitive and recreational athletes, and disseminate information to an international audience of coaches, swimmers and researchers." Last year, a project by Stager through the center analyzed the effect of full-length body suits used by Olympic swimmers at the summer games in Australia.
