Extractions: Key Stage 3 International Baccalaureate ... The School Library Introduction to the ISB Secondary School First established in September 1991 with one very small group of students, we have grown considerably over the last 11 years. We now have over 400 students and 35 full time staff members. Our maximum class size is usually 24 and we have a three form in-take into Years 7 - 13. Students come to The International School, Brunei at a variety of ages, from very different educational and cultural backgrounds and with varied English Language skills. They have different levels of ability and may leave the school to return to national educational systems, to attend international schools or colleges and universities elsewhere in the world. Our aim, therefore, is to provide a curriculum sufficiently flexible to meet a wide range of demands, and rigorous enough to meet the challenge of any national system whilst catering for a wide range of abilities. Our chosen curriculum is a modified version of the National Curriculum of England and Wales, leading into a two year programme in which students prepare for University of Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and GCSE. (General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations at the end of year 11. This curriculum offers challenge, breadth, balance and coherence through a wide range of subjects, including English, Maths, Science, ICT, Malay, French, History, Geography, Business Studies, Art, Expressive Arts, Design and Technology, Music, Health and PE, and Personal and Social Education. Intensive support in English as a Second Language is provided by our ESL department, and the special learning needs of gifted students and students with specific learning difficulties are met by our SEN department.
