Stained Glass Buckyball First Year High School Art Students Create stained glass Buckyball. Fish Motif.A class of talented students learned stained glass from parent and http://world.std.com/~brd/stglassorb.html
Extractions: A class of talented students learned stained glass from parent and professional studio artist Michael Martino. After working together to accomplish a three panel stained glass mural that now adorns the math and science wing, each student designed a fish in a hexagon or pentagon that came together in the C60 buckyball spherical geometric form. This idea emerged when we were in the middle of the mural and visited Virtual Reality Polyhedra web site. There we found a conceptual stained glass sphere. Our students said, "that's a great idea, let's really make one", and so they did. This glass covered polycarbonate orb is now a hanging light in the art room. Students completed their stained glass work by making independent window hangings Kerry Stefancyk, Allison Cahill, and Jessica Smith apply grout made of latex painter's caulking, grout, and tint black Our first mural Uxbridge High School Main Entrance "Mike's Dolphin" donated to UMASS Hospital "Ali's Dream" donated to UMASS Hospital ... The Chapel Of St Salvator Information about the windows of this chapel at the University of St Andrews inScotland, a rare and beautiful example of Late Gothic architecture. http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/services/muscoll/glass.html
Extractions: The Stained Glass of St Salvator's Chapel The glazing of St Salvators Chapel has undergone many dramatic changes over the centuries. We have no evidence of what the original Medieval scheme looked like but, given the ornate architectural survivals, it is probable that finely patterned, grisaille glass would have played an essential role in the decoration of the church. The Chapel was stripped of its stained glass during the Reformation and nothing more is known about how it was glazed until the eighteenth century. During the restoration undertaken between 1759 - 60, the windows were cleared of their mullions and tracery, and were fitted with wooden frames and shutters. John Oliphants drawing of the Chapel (c.1767) reveals the disagreeable aspect these improvements gave to the building. Nevertheless, the shutters remained in place until the late 1840s, when they were taken down and the windows filled with clear glass. Though elegant and attractive in execution, this clear glazing was only a temporary feature of the Chapel. The major restoration of the building begun by Principal Forbes in 1861 saw the Chapel completely re-glazed. in situ . However, photographs provide us with some idea of the overall impact of the scheme. The 1860s restoration saw all of the windows in the Chapel fitted with delicate new tracery. However, the westernmost window, and the small window set above the south door were glazed in diamond-leaded, clear glass. In addition, the first window to the east of the door was never executed. In its place is a fine window in Pre-Raphaelite style designed by Henry Holiday in the 1880s.

Subsequently he was invited to contribute work to Schaffraths 60th birthday exhibition, then invited to work alongside Schreiter as his Teaching Assistant and also given an artist-in-residence stipendium at Derix Glasgestaltung on the advice of these two artists. While working as a Teaching Assistant at the Pilchuck School, dialogue developed with Prof. Stanislav Libensky. A year later Walker was invited to study under Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova and went on to live in the Czech Republic for much of the 1990s to develop his sculptures in cast glass. Stained Glass Terrariums By Ron Gladkowski terrariums, stained glass window planters, and flower vases exclusively.I started doing traditional stained glass almost thirty years ago, http://www.terrariums.net/
Extractions: My approach to creativity is to let my imagination run free, and follow it. I see shapes in my head, and I make them in glass. The softness of the plants and flowers contrast with the angles and lines in the design, and bring balance and harmony between man's and nature's creations. Terrariums give shelter to the plants, and the plants give life to the terrariums. Note: There are many, so called, terrariums on the market, which are imported. Though less expensive, they are made of metal frames, ( which can rust) and come with glass panels that you have to slide into the frames. They are not watertight and work fine for potted plants, or plants in plastic containers, but will leak when watered. All of my terrariums are watertight, the frames will not rust, and soil and plants can be placed directly inside, with no worries.

There should be red navigation bars at the left and top of this page. If either is missing, click on Art History with Michelli to install the site. All art-oriented sites are graphics intensive. That means they are often slow - sometimes painfully so. The only answer is to cultivate zen-like patience. The sites I have put together will appear inside my site. You can get back to the stained glass pages by clicking on the yellow links above, or you can use the back button to go back one screen at a time. Most printed publications about stained glass are strongly biassed in favour of Early Medieval glass. The nineteenth-century Clayton and Bell window to the right, for example, would be deplored as being too realistic, too dark, and covered with too much paint. This is extraordinary. The history of stained glass is the history of ingenious attempts to EXPAND the range of possibilities. Check out the historical technique links below to see this for yourself.
Plique-a-jour Enamel Jewelry Miniature Stained Glass Enamel works and brief description of the pliquea-jour enameling technique. This is the style reminiscent of Art Nouveau and which resembles miniature stained glass. http://www.plique-a-jour.com/
Extractions: by Enamel Artist Diane Echnoz Almeyda Welcome to the rare and fascinating world of plique-a-jour enameling . Here, ribbons of precious gold and silver filigree wire are fused with specially formulated glass to create breathtaking vessels, jewelry, and objets d'art, as well as scale miniature stained glass windows, lamps, and panels for use by dollhouse collectors and enthusiasts, as well as in architectural models The appearance of plique-a-jour enamels readily brings to mind the skilled craftsmanship of great Art Nouveau jewelers and artists such as Rene Lalique, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Peter Carl Faberge Considered a technical "tour de force" in enameling, this most beautiful and most difficult of enameling techniques - plique-a-jour , (which loosely translates as "light of day") - is sometimes referred to as "backless cloisonné" because of the appearance of the fine silver or gold filigree wire "veins" running through areas of transparent and translucent
Extractions: Medieval Stained Glass Another Jarrow Window - doing very well today! This link shows you that 7th century church in Jarrow, and has a link to another, circular Saxon window (click on "one of those windows") - sadly, this one is even more fancifully reconstructed than the one above, but exciting nonetheless. The Lorsch Christ - This is said to be the earliest surviving figurative stained glass in the west. Unlike the Jarrow examples, it has black enamel paint that leaves us in no doubt about what it is. Variously dated from late 10th to 11th century. The Wissembourg Christ - This window dates to c.1060 (or earlier), and is a rare early piece. Note the restriction to pot-metal glass and black enamel paint only. Note also the rather odd proportions of the face. This is not bad art, it is a highly intellectual signal of the perfection of Christ! How many geometric forms can you find in that face? Daniel, Augsburg Cathedral - Peter Evans' photo of one of the five surviving prophet windows at Augsburg (click on the top left photo, when the page comes up). These are variously dated from c.1000 AD to mid 12th century (c.1150). Note pure pot-metal glass and black enamel paint only. And here are two more prophets , in less clear images, sadly.
Extractions: Mike's Stained Glass contains stained glass tips, and help. This site also contains a vast array of links, which includes free patterns. There is also quite a few pictures of my more advanced work. My name is Mike Savad. I am a stained glass artist who lives in Westfield, NJ. I have been doing stained glass for about 19 years. My hobby is stained glass which I first learned when I was 9 years old at the Westfield Summer Workshop. This is a summer program that teaches various arts, crafts and music to kindergarten through 12th grade children. This is where I first got the taste of stained glass, yum. I learned all the basics here. For the advanced stuff I'm self taught. Through the years, I have helped teach stained glass classes won various prizes in art competitions and worked at stained glass professionally. I would now like to share some of the things that I have learned about stained glass which might be helpful to people who are also interested in this craft. About Me
