Extractions: The Intredpid Sea Air Space Museum is not your run of the mill painting and sculpture place. Most New Yorkers have driven by it a million times it's right on the West Side Highway . . . but how many have actually taken the time to stop and go in? It is very interesting and educational. Kids would enjoy it because it is something different. Adults would enjoy it because they will learn something!! It is definately one of those New York places that everyone should go at least once. It is located along the Hudson River where there are walk and bike paths so plan time to take a stroll either before or after your visit. Was this helpful?

Extractions: Click to Enlarge The carrier Intrepid survived five hits by kamikaze planes, more than any other single ship in the U.S. Navy [ ]. Although the Intrepid had the nickname of "Fighting I," she was also called the "Ghost Ship," since the carrier returned to battle each time the Japanese thought she had been put out of commission. The ship had to return to the U.S. for repairs three times during World War II after suffering damage from torpedoes and kamikaze attacks. After the end of World War II, the Intrepid was decommissioned, but she was recommissioned in 1954.
