While teachers may find search engine image searches useful in lesson preparation, they should always be used with care and caution, and it is probably wise not to use them 'live' within a classroom setting. HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA Statin drugs can safely reduce cholesterol levels and reverse artery narrowing in children with familial hypercholesterolemia, according to a Dutch study. In the study, cholesterol levels dropped 24% in children ages 8 to 18 who took pravastatin for 2 years. Plus, carotid artery narrowing reversed course. The study involved 214 children with familial hypercholesterolemia, which is associated with myocardial infarction in early adulthood. Before taking statins, the children spent 3 months on a low-fat diet but still had average low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels of 239 mg/dl-more than 100 points higher than recommended. Children took either pravastatin or a placebo daily for 2 years. Researchers asked them to continue their low-fat diet and to exercise. After 2 years, children who took pravastatin had LDL levels that were on average 57 points less than at the start of the study. Ultrasound testing showed that the thickness of their carotid arteries had decreased by about 10 micrometers. (Thickened arteries can indicate a buildup of fatty plaque.) The drug didn't seem to have any effect on growth and development, hormone levels, or liver or muscle tissue. In contrast, levels of LDL in children who took a placebo didn't change, and ultrasound testing showed that carotid artery thickness increased by 5 micrometers.

There are two types of puzzles; kid's and adult's, the only difference being the size of the puzzle and the number of words. The kid's puzzles almost always have 18 words, while the adult's puzzles may have over 50. I try to fit as many words as I can on the adults's puzzles. All of the kid's puzzles are lumped into one big category, Kid's Puzzles. The adult's puzzles are broken into 7 categories, General, Geography, Holidays, Letters, Bible, Sports, and TV-Movies. There may be letters that are unused when you complete a puzzle. The left over letters are just that. There are no hidden messages or anything like that, just simple little puzzles. Extractions: "On August 20, 2005 I attended an event in Spanish Fork Canyon, Utah called Versus II. I have been attending parties in Utah for the past few years and now am the director of the Salt Lake City DanceSafe organization. We staff parties with information booths handing out info cards, candy, ear plugs, and other harm reduction related material. Although we were not staffing this party with a booth, many members of the SLCDS were present and making sure the party was safely under control. The promoters had provided the necessary permits, security guards, food, water, bathrooms, parking, and lighting making this a well organized, safe and LEGAL event. What occurred two hours into the party was something that none of us expected or had ever seen. After watching cop cars gather in the valley outside the party, I assumed it was going to be the standard procedure of pulling people over as they leave if they are driving erratically or unsafely to ensure there were not party goers making the wrong choice in driving home under the influence. But around 11:30pm, the cop cars disbursed and a helicopter appeared overhead. Once the spotlight began shining on the party, many cop cars and two paddy wagons pulled into the parking area. This is when the tension began to seriously elevate. All of sudden, what seemed like around 100 officers in camouflage and riot gear began to pour in from all sides of the party armed with dogs, rifles, hand guns and tear gas.

According to Danielle McGrath of Jacksonville, Fla., who is the mother to 22-month-old Jake and six-week-old Gabrielle, basic childproofing and common sense are the way to keep your babies free from injury. The bottom line for McGrath and savvy parents everywhere is that there's no substitute for paying attention. Be ready to respond at a moment's notice if a child gets into trouble. And once you've got the bases covered if you possibly can relax. "They're going to get cuts and scrapes no matter what you do," McGrath says. "You just have to try to protect them as best you can." Take heart. Following these simple steps from safekids.org will help make your home a safer overall place for your child:
