Some of the best and brightest kids in Minnesota were there. You could have learned how stable the Ark was in strong winds, how to, and how not to make yogurt, how weight effects the speed of a sled, and how to get energy from chicken droppings. Over 60 projects were up for display with many passersby stopping to check them out. It was a wonderful opportunity to place a Christian viewpoint of science before the public. CSMEE Digest 97-5 science fair projects have long been familiar events in schools throughout science fair projects and is based on over twenty years of teaching science http://www.stemworks.org/digests/dse98-1.html
Extractions: January 1998 (Updated June 2003) ERIC Clearinghouse for Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Education DIGEST Science fair projects have long been familiar events in schools throughout the country, and they have come to represent science in action, science as inquiry. The investigatory aspect of science fair projects fits wellwith current reform efforts guided by such publications as Science for All Americans, Benchmarks for Scientific Literacy, and the National Science Education Standards. Classroom science is steadily being transformed into a process-driven, inquiry-based area of study, and science fair projects provide additional opportunities for students to become personally and directly involved in scientific investigation. Elementary schools participate in science fairs for a variety of reasons: to stimulate student interest in science, to provide students with opportunities for research and active inquiry, to publicly recognize students' completed projects, and to provide students with opportunities to share their work (Perry,1995). There are many variations in format, but the primary components of a science fair project typically include an investigation, a written research report, a visual display, an oral presentation, and some sort of assessment. Learning some scientific facts or principles is a valuable fringe benefit for students doing projects, but the primary objective for science project work is to teach students to think (Tant, 1992, p.5 .)

Project AstroBio: Teacher Information with a science club, going on field trips, doing science fair projects, Project AstroBio s goals are to. Enhance science education; Encourage http://www.astro.washington.edu/projastrobio/teacherinfo.html
Extractions: Project AstroBio What is Project AstroBio? In this innovative program twenty-five 3rd - 12th grade teachers from the Puget Sound region are paired each year with volunteer astronomers and other scientists who have an interest in working with local schools and organizations. Together, teachers and partner scientists participate in a hands-on training workshop, receive high quality resource materials, and develop a strategy for working together in and out of the classroom. There are a total of 42 Project AstroBio partnerships, from Everett to Olympia! "Classic" Project Astro, which began in Seattle in 1997, has become Project AstroBio as of 2002, to reflect a new and growing involvement in the sciences of astrobiology, which is the study of the origin, history, and extremes of life on Earth, as well as the possibility of life on other planets. Whereas in past years Project Astro teachers were paired solely with amateur, student, and professional astronomers, Project AstroBio teachers now may be paired with either astronomers or with scientists with more of a biology background. The range of science that can be done by hands-on activities now includes not only astronomy and related sciences, but also aspects of life in the universe. Partnerships involve more than just one-time visits:

Teacher Resources Teachers may find teaching science a major challenge in an era when science ranges from the The Scientific American Book of Great science fair projects http://www.csef.colostate.edu/Teacher_Resources.htm
Extractions: Humans, especially children, are naturally curious. Yet, people often balk at the thought of learning science - the"eyes glazed over" syndrome. Teachers may find teaching science a major challenge in an era when science ranges from the hardly imaginable quark to the distant, blazing quasar. Inquiry and the National Science Education Standards is the book that educators have been waiting for - a practical guide to teaching inquiry and teaching through inquiry, as recommended by the National Science Education Standards. This will be an important resource for educators who must help school boards, parents, and teachers understand "why we can't teach the way we used to." "Inquiry" refers to the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and in which students grasp science knowledge and the methods by which that knowledge is produced. This book explains and illustrates how inquiry helps students learn science content, master how to do science, and understand the nature of science.
