Extractions: A Look into Postponements What are "postponements"? What purpose do they serve? Were they in use by ancient Israel under Moses? Did Jesus heed, or even know of, these rules? Did God ordain them? Did Hillel II ordain them? Does the Mishnah or Talmud enjoin their use? What is their origin? Let us delve deeply into the matter The following quote divulges the workings of postponements. It may take a few readings to grasp some understanding of it. "The dehiyyot [postponements] are as follows: (a) If the Tishri molad falls on day 1, 4, or 6, then Tishri 1 is postponed one day. [This postponement is often referred to as ADU, which is an acronym formed from the Hebrew letters alef (1 for Sunday), daled vov (6 for Friday)] (b) If the Tishri molad occurs at or after 18 hours (i.e., noon), then Tishri 1 is postponed one day. If this causes Tishri 1 to fall on day 1, 4, or 6, then Tishri 1 is postponed an additional day to satisfy dehiyyah (a). (c) If the Tishri molad of an ordinary year (i.e., of twelve months) falls on day 3 at or after 9 hours, 204
FEAST OF TRUMPETS So the Faest of Tumpets, or rosh hoshanah, the first day of the Hebrew new year yom kippur is the most solemn day celebrated on the Hebrew calendar. http://endtimepilgrim.org/trumpets.htm
Extractions: Image from Dave Wilkerson's book. In the fall of the year and on the first day of the Tishrei moon the trumpets are blown to announce Rosh Hashanah. It is the Jewish new year. This Feast of Trumpets begins the "ten days of awe", leading up to the most solemn day on the Hebrew calendar, the "Day of Atonement" or "Day of Reckoning" when all accounts are settled between God and His people for that year. Every 50 years on the Feast of Trumpets the trumpet of Jubilee is blown. Trumpets are also blown to call God's people to worship and to assembly in times of national crisis and warfare. On a future Rosh Hoshanah, on the new moon of Tishrei, an epic Feast of Trumpets will erupt into holy history. This will truly be an awesome day of alarm. All of God's covenant people will be called to solemn assembly. What will have happened? Could it possibly be the day when the coming 7 year peace treaty of Daniel 9:27 is signed and Israel divides and sells the Holy Land? - Dan.11:39 Seven years (and 1260 + 1290 days later the 'Day of the Lord' will bring an open heaven. Zionism Repentance Judaism sees the world as a web of relationships: our relationship with God, our many relationships with other people. It is the nature of relationships to ebb and flow. There are good times and bad times. There are times of intimacy and closeness and there are times of alienation and distance. This is true for our relationships with other people and it is the case for our relationship with God. At the root of rectify any relationship which has gone awry is the need for sincere teshuvah (repentance) and in some cases kapparah (atonement). The hurt must be healed and the mistakes repaired and resolved in order for the relationship to resume in a healthy manner. Repentance, then, is the key to realigning relationships that are off-track. Jewish tradition does pretend or expect that humans are perfect or will ever be perfect. There is no pretense that we are capable of avoiding sin altogether and are therefore miserable failures because we are not perfect. The focus is rather twofold: (1) correcting mistakes we have made; and (2) changing ourselves so as to avoid making the same mistakes again in our lives. Given the centrality of repentance in keeping relationships healthy, it is not surprising that prayers for forgiveness figure prominently into the daily liturgy. Each morning, afternoon, and afternoon, one is to recite the Amidah, a series of benedictions which, on weekdays, include petitions to God. Prayers for repentance, forgiveness, and the redemption that result for a reconciled relationship top the list. While we direct our prayers to God, the theme of the prayers reminds us to examine our relationships with other human beings at regular intervals, as well.

Since it is by no means comprehensive, you should consult Rabbi HaLevi for additional information or refer to one of the sources listed below. Festivals and holy days having a fixed date on the Jewish Calendar are indicated. For example, Purim always falls on the 14th day of Jewish month of Adar. ~ A Note on the difference between festivals and other holy days: The festivals mark the three times in the yearly liturgical cycle when all Jews are commanded by G-d to go up to Jerusalem to pray and sacrifice. Today, we mark these times with extended worship and prayer, study, distinctive prayer melodies, and festive meals. ~ In Hebrew, Rosh Chodesh means, literally, "head of the month" or "first of the month." Rosh Chodesh is the first day of any new month. If a month is 30 days long, then the 30th day is treated as part of the Rosh Chodesh for the next month, and the Rosh Chodesh for next month extends for two days (the 30th of the earlier month and the 1st of the later month). ~ In Hebrew, Rosh Chodesh means, literally, "head of the month" or "first of the month." In Torah law, we find that, in certain dimensions, the majority of a quantity is considered as the totality of the quantity. Similarly, in the laws of prayer, though ten people are required for a minyan, all the prayers requiring a minyan can be recited when only six of the ten are actually praying. It is associated with the six days of creation and thus, is related to Rosh HaShanah which commemorates the creation of the world. These two factors are interrelated for Rosh HaShanah also shares a connection with the Ten Days of Teshuvah as obvious from our Sages' statement, "These are the Ten Days between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur." This implies that, in addition to the essential qualities which they possess in their own right, Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur also share in the general service of the Ten Days of Teshuvah.

In a way, this signals the real beginning of the year, since Tishrei is a "general" month, i.e. a month of preparation for the year. MarCheshvan therefore has a unique status, since it is the first of the "regular" months of the year. For this reason, today is the proper time to set the pattern for G-dly service throughout the year especially for the Shabbosim of the year. The Torah gives clear directions regarding conduct on Shabbos in parshas Vayakhel. The opening words of the parshah ("Vayakhel Moshe"/"Moshe gathered") are explained in Midrash: "In the entire Torah from beginning to end, the only parshah which begins with the word Vayakhel is this one...in order that all future generations should learn to gather congregations every single Shabbos; to enter the houses of learning to study and to teach the Jewish people words of Torah."

Extractions: THE SABBATH The Rabbis made the Sabbath the very centre of the Jewish religion, a perennial fountain of idealism and regeneration in Israel. They instituted the Kiddush prayer, praising God for the gift of the Sabbath, to celebrate its coming in; and the Habdalah [page xiv] Neglect of such worship injures the spiritual life of both the individual and the community. By keeping the Sabbath, the Rabbis tell us, we testify to our belief in God as the Creator of the Universe; in a God who is not identical with Nature, but is a free Personality, the Creator and Ruler of Nature. The Talmudic mystics tell that when the heavens and earth were being called into existence, matter was getting out of hand, and the Divine Voice had to resound, 'Enough! So far and no further!' Man, made in the image of God, has been endowed by Him with the power of creating. But in his little universe, too, matter is constantly getting out of hand, threatening to overwhelm and crush out soul. By means of the Sabbath, called [H] 'a memorial of Creation', we are endowed with the Divine power of saying 'Enough!' to all rebellious claims of our environment, and are reminded of our potential victory over all material forces that would drag us down. The Sabbath, as conceived by the Rabbis, is the supreme example of the hallowing of life under the sanctifying influence of the Law. That sacred day is the perennial fountain of idealism and regeneration in Israel. More than any other institution has it moulded Jewish family life with its virtues of chastity, charity, love, peace; virtues nowhere surpassed, rarely equalled. Amid all the misery and slavery that for so many centuries were the lot of Israel, once a week the home of the humblest Jew was flooded with light. The Sabbath banished care and toil, grief and sorrow. On that day, the despised and rejected of men was emancipated from the oppression and tribulation and degradation of this world; he felt himself a prince, a member of a great, eternal, holy people.
