Extractions: Updated: April, 2000 Read This While the Map Below is Loading In 1949, while working for the Washington State Division of Mines and Geology, Department of Conservation and Development; Grant M. Valentine completed the "Inventory of Washington Minerals Part I Nonmetallic Minerals." This inventory is the most concise and holistic record of Washington State mineral deposits ever completed . Although this information has been in the "Public Domain" for over five decades, this is the first time it has been printed on-line for the same audience. Although Valentine's reports to the State and the public are of 1949 vintage; the sites I have listed on this page are intended to serve as an overall rockhounding index, that is, an index that has been updated by a growing list of Sources So in order to help preserve rockhounding for the public on our public land, I welcome land owners, rockhounds, and visitors to our great State to Update and add collecting site related information to this page. By doing this I hope to have a balance struck between the backcountry visitors, and the people who control the access. Just because these mineral deposits exist, and have been listed on this page, does not mean that they are all open to the public for collecting. Unfortunately in some cases, some of these sites do not exist anymore, some are too dangerous to collect at, and others may be rightfully posted "
