Wyoming Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic is enormous. This site can not and does not index all lesson resources. That would be impossible, as sites appear and disappear with astonishing rapidity. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. History I Print Preview of Section Rhode Island , state in the northeastern United States, in New England, officially the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. On May 4, 1776, Rhode Island became the first of the 13 original colonies to declare its independence from Great Britain. However, it was the last of the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution of the United States, doing so on May 29, 1790. The smallest state in the Union, it is, after New Jersey, the second most densely populated and one of the most highly industrialized. Its name is a paradox, since most of the state is part of the North American mainland. The name Rhode Island is the official name of the largest island of Narragansett Bay, an estuary that extends through the eastern part of the state. On most maps of the United States, the state appears so small that it is difficult to identify, but its influence is more widely felt than its tiny size would warrant.

What the UMass Dartmouth library has - MAPS AND CHARTS IN THE UMASS DARTMOUTH LIBRARY A map is a visual representation of information. It may include text to describe features (e.g. rivers, roads, mountains) or background (e.g. historical, sociological, ecological). When is a map a chart? If it is a visual representation of land it is a map. Water, air, the stars are all visually represented on charts. The map cabinets on the second floor of the library contain a collection of charts and maps for all areas of the world, and beyond. Whether for information on a current event, for a design project, an assignment, or personal interest, this collection provides a wealth of information in graphic form. Coastal Charts The entire United States coastline, including islands, large lakes and major rivers are in this set. A chart indicates water features such as depth, navigation channels and the location of shoals and other sunken objects that are hazards to navigation. Shorelines and landmarks visible from the water are also included in these charts. This library receives the complete set from the U.S. government, kept in the map cabinets labeled "Coastal Charts." The charts are organized in numerical order from the Gulf of Mexico, going counterclockwise around the coastline to southern California. "Our" coastal area is the 13200 range. The highest numbers in the set are for Hawaii and the Virgin Islands. The location key for each chart is found in folded catalogs (resembling automobile maps) between book ends on top of the map cabinets.
