Religion And Ecology Brief introduction to ecotheology and short descriptions of the relationship between individual religions and the environment. http://hollys7.tripod.com/religionandecology/
Extractions: This site is intended to explore the relationship between religion and the environment, between creator and creation. This area of religious study is perhaps esoteric in nature, but is applicable to all people, even for those who are not religious. It's scope is primarily academic, and not devotional, and is intended to serve as an introduction to the study of religion and its environmental implications. Humans have undeniably and boldly placed themselves and all other life in ecological crisis. We have not only failed to preserve the diversity of species that inhabit the earth, but we have failed to recognize the value of diversity that is implied in biology as being inherently valuable within our own species. We have created ghettos with our "isms" and placed a value of intolerance among relgions, genders, races, economic and social classes, and sexual orientation.

A Refutation Of Religion An essay in defence of an atheistagnostic viewpoint, presented in question and answer format. http://www.neurotoxic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/refutation.html
Extractions: A Refutation of Religion "Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear." George Orwell What I believe. I am an atheist. I do not believe in the existence of God. God may or may not exist. I can neither prove that God exists, nor prove that he doesn't. However, in the absence of positive proof that God does exist I will not believe in him. God may exist, but I don't know that he exists, therefore I do not believe in God. I am not categorically saying that God does not exist, simply that it is meaningless to talk about believing in something when you don't know for certain whether it exists or not. In a sense, therefore, I am also an agnostic. Throughout this text I will refer to those who believe in a God or Gods of any kind as theists. This discussion is intended to be general and will therefore not address any religions in particular but merely the concept of God (which is common to most of the world's religions, with the notable exception of Buddhism). I will refer to God as 'He' throughout this text, even though ascribing a gender to a supreme being is completely meaningless, because it is traditional to do so. The text is in the format of a series of points made to me by religious friends of mine with whom I have discussed religious belief, and my refutations of these points. Religions Of The World An introduction to the six major religious traditions of the world from theEMuseum at the University of Minnesota. Includes histories and basic beliefs of http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/cultural/religion/
Extractions: to explore today's major world religions. An Introduction to the Study of World Religions From the earliest known evidence of human religion by Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis around 100,000 years ago to the present day, religion continues to be a very influential aspect of human lives. Today, there are numerous challenges and problems faced by humans from every possible background, location and social class. Every day people must face issues of health, safety and mortality. It is because of these daily challenges that religion continues to exist. Religion is the universal tool for explaining things which we do not understand through the context the known physical world. Although there are countless religions, each different from the other, they all serve the same purpose. Each answers questions which all humans seem to be programmed to ask: Why are we here? What happens when I die? How shall I live my life? Religion helps us to transmit our values from one generation to another, and influences the way we interact with the natural environment. It teaches us how to see ourselves in light of the universe and gives purpose and meaning to life.

Extractions: "Zoroastrianism is the oldest of the revealed world-religions, and it has probably had more influence on mankind, directly and indirectly, than any other single faith." - Mary Boyce, Zoroastrians: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices (London: Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1979, p. 1) "Zoroaster was thus the first to teach the doctrines of an individual judgment, Heaven and Hell, the future resurrection of the body, the general Last Judgment, and life everlasting for the reunited soul and body. These doctrines were to become familiar articles of faith to much of mankind, through borrowings by Judaism, Christianity and Islam; yet it is in Zoroastrianism itself that they have their fullest logical coherence.... - Mary Boyce, Op. Cit. p. 29. We provide the complete text of the extant Avesta , the most ancient scriptures of Zoroastrianism, as well as many Pahlavi scriptures. Scientology Religion And It's Ecclesiastical Hierarchy Describes each point of the ecclesiastical structure of the church. Outlines what kinds of churches deliver introductory and more advanced services. http://www.approvedscientology.org/
Extractions: The Scientology Membership Association Deutsch Italiano The Church of Scientology is formed into an ecclesiastical structure which unifies and aligns a multitude of diverse religious activities including not only Scientology and Dianetics auditing and training, but proselytization, ecclesiastical management, relay of communication, production of dissemination materials and many other functions. Thus the Scientology religious community is united both by common beliefs and practices and an organizational form uniquely suited to its religious mission. Scientologists come together in a worldwide hierarchical religious community. The structure of this community is an important, functional part of the Scientology religion. Because Scientology Scripture requires that its religious practices be ministered in an orthodox manner, the hierarchical structure helps ensure that individual churches receive the support and guidance needed to do this. All Scientologists are thus assured of an orthodox religious observance in every church around the world. Site Map Religious Resources
