He once wrote a pamphlet which I still treasure, called The Stalinist Position on the American Negro Between Man and Man is concerned almost entirely with the question of personality, the person as human being, the person as a member of society, the absolute personality. As such, written in Germany in the second quarter of this century, it is perforce a running commentary on Kierkegaard, Husserl, Heidegger, Scheler. But this does not make Buber an Existentialist any more than Aquinas is a Nominalist or an Averroist. Again, the American lectures gathered as

Extractions: Text of a sermon entitled What do Pagans believe, anyway? delivered 12/19/99 by Debbie Huffman at Unitarian Fellowship of Houston, Texas, a lay-led congregation largely humanist in orientation and viewpoint. When I noted to [the Worship chairperson] that I had written a sermon concerning what Pagans *do,* she asked me, rather, to discuss what Pagans *believe.* I had a crisis of perspective. Its a daunting amount of material to try to cover in a half hour. The simple truth is, Pagans are very much like Unitarian Universalists, particularly in two ways: If you ask 3 Pagans what they believe, you will get 4 answers; and, it is far easier to define Paganism in the negative what it is not is more concrete than what it is. Scholars will make certain obvious definitions. Extant systems with a continuous heritage are often termed Paleo-Pagan and may include Native American, African and Oceanic religions. Classical Paganism usually refers to the Graeco-Roman mythologies, but may also include Mesopotamian and Egyptian beliefs. In casual use, Pagan usually means modern Neo-Paganism, a belief system inspired by the "old religions" but typically a re-creation or revitalization rather than a directly inherited, continuous tradition.

PHILOSOPHY PATHWAYS Issue 93 The issue of reincarnation has brought much criticism among many philosophers . Existence of God This is one of the key problems of metaphysics today, http://www.shef.ac.uk/~ptpdlp/newsletter/issue93.html
Extractions: PHILOSOPHY PATHWAYS electronic journal Edited by Geoffrey Klempner home P H I L O S O P H Y P A T H W A Y S http://www.shef.ac.uk/~ptpdlp/newsletter/ Sunday Times and Manchester Guardian On Truth and Falsehood in an Extramoral Sense , unpublished in his lifetime, vividly depicted the central problem of philosophy from Ecclesiastes to twentieth century existentialism; namely, what is the meaning, what can be the meaning of human life. Behind all the cognitive science, the 'brain as computer' theories, the 'neurophilosophy' that proliferates in the wake of the modern sciences, still lurks the ugly vision of Schopenhauer that all life is meaningless and the sooner it is finished, the better. The spread of this nightmarish thought has been kept at bay in the western world by Christianity. God hoi polloi look away from it and live out their lives following their instincts or their social conventions. They exercise their mind in coping with life; the rest is left to the doctors of religious institutions. But more mentally restless types of individuals try to combat this painful perception by extending their influence beyond their immediate surround. This may be in the form of mortar and concrete, contemporary pyramids meant to outlive their lifetime. Others spread their mark in political, professional or civic circles. Intense relationships temporarily distract from the problem of self. A few create artwork or literature that they hope will be a different kind of monument, forever attesting to the fact that they were here on the planet. The ambition for fame, widespread among otherwise superior personalities, has been said to be the last defect of the noble soul. There is a never-ceasing restlessness in

Reincarnation In African Traditional Religion Belief In reincarnation In The Framework Of Western Ontology. How does Westernmetaphysics consider the entity man as a being? What is the reality in man? http://www.afrikaworld.net/afrel/atr-reincarnation.htm
Extractions: An Impossible Concept in the Framework of African Ontology by Innocent Onyewuenyi 1. Dynamic Character Of The African Concept Of Being The essence or nature of anything is conceived by the African as "force. " It is not even correct to say that 'being' in the African thought has the necessary element or quality of force. The precision of their concept of being will not be attained if their notion of being is expressed as "being is that which possesses force." Rather, "the concept of force is inseparable from the definition of 'being.' There is no idea among Bantu of 'being' divorced from the idea of 'force.' Without the element 'force,' 'being' cannot be conceived .... Force is the nature of being, force is being; being is force.(1) Care must be taken here not to confuse this dynamic notion of reality with some kind of universal force animatine all existence. For Africans there is a clear distinction and essential difference between different forces or inner realities of beings, just as there are differences between categories of material visible things. "When you say in terms of western philosophy, that beings are differentiated by their essences or nature; Africans say that forces differ in their essences or nature. There is the divine force, terrestrial or celestial forces, human forces, and vegetable and even mineral forces." (2)
