The blaze, which began in the Hortobagy national park on Thursday, has already engulfed about 70 square kilometres (27 square miles) of the plain's reedy grassland. Record high temperatures, reaching 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit), and strong winds are fanning the fire across the "puszta" plain in the northeastern park. Several villages have been warned to prepare for evacuation. Tibor Dobson, a spokesman for the National Emergency Centre, told Reuters: "A strong wind is strengthening the fire, and the marshy area is almost inaccessible to vehicles." The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it threatens the nesting areas of several rare birds, including the large bustard which is almost extinct in Europe.

Accuracy is limited by how well areas have been covered, and whether or not I have been provided information about these species. I welcome any and all information that will result in updating and clarifying the status of these county rarities. Review species are NOT listed. It is assumed that these species, rare anywhere in the state, will be considered rare regardless of location, and it is hoped they will be documented and reported to the Oregon Birds Records Committee. How should you use these lists? At the very least report any rare species to other birders that you know have an interest in the county.     Extractions: The Charge Fortune can make a man do some pretty fowl things. Opening Statement I am going to call this film one of those little gems that you've never heard about. Until I saw it pop up in my mailbox, I'd never heard of Rare Birds so I'm willing to bet most of you are just like me. Upon seeing the cover, I immediately became wary because of the giant mug of William Hurt staring back at me. Admittedly, I have not seen most of his films, and the few I have seen weren't all that impressive ( Lost In Space , anyone?). So when the time came to watch the film, I was afraid. I decided to watch the theatrical trailer first and my hopes arose as the film looked like it could be a cute romantic comedy. Yet at the end of my first viewing, I was disappointed. I felt that there was a lot of potential that wasn't found and expanded upon, and I also was put off by several supporting details of the movie. However, being one of the many thorough reviewers on this fine site, I gave the disc a second spin (truthfully for the commentary track) and discovered a better movie. The details fell into place, not completely yet smartly, and the story was much more refreshing and fun. Upon my second viewing, I discovered a sweet film with exceptional acting. It still has its problems, but don't let the rubber ducky, or William Hurt's face, on the cover scare you.

He spent £450,000 ($700,000) on exotic parrots and bought a £450,000 four-bedroom house in which to keep his massive collection said to be one of the biggest in Britain. Gardiner was caught when he transferred £928,000 ($1.45 million) into the account of his partner, Claire Richards, taking the total stolen to £2,172,432 ($3.4 million), Maidstone Crown Court heard Tuesday. Judge Andrew Patience described Gardiner's conduct as "outrageous and disgraceful" and said his actions had undermined the public's confidence in banks. Gardiner earlier had admitted to 24 counts of theft from customers of Lloyds TSB in Sevenoaks, Kent, between 1999 and 2002.

The delicate operation was carried out by a team approved by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and the Countryside Council for Wales. The birds were also weighed and measured. Each chick was fitted with two rings, a metal BTO ring with a unique number, and an engraved yellow ring on the right leg, with the number 37 on the older chick and number 39 on the younger. "The advantage of the colour-rings is that it is possible to read them with a telescope, which will allow them to be identified as Glaslyn ospreys born in 2005 if they return to nest in a few years time," said a spokesman for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds last night. RSPB Cymru osprey project manager Gili Armson said: "They were both very plump and well fed, with the weigh-in revealing that the younger chick is actually the heavier of the two at just over 1.5 kilos."
