Our sheep eat grasses, clover, and forbs. The sheep drink spring water which flows from high on our ridges. At our midwinter lambing we supplement our ewes' feed with hay which is grown on our ridge spines and bottom fields. Around the time of birth, we also feed our sheep organic grains and meal from California and Oregon, according to the ewes' and lambs' needs.... We make or have made a wide range of organic wool products from our sheep." Bowns, J.E. Sheep behavior under unherded conditions on mountain summer ranges.

Extractions: Autors 11 Jul 2005 Forestry RADIAL VARIABILITY OF THE STRENGTH QUALITY COEFFICIENT OF SCOTS PINE ( Pinus sylvestris L.) WOOD IN RELATION TO THE TREE BIOSOCIAL POSITION IN THE STAND Marcin Jakubowski ... Witold Pazdrowski In their study, the authors made an attempt to determine the radial variability of the strength quality coefficient of Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) wood in relation to the biosocial position of trees in the stand. The performed investigations comprised trees representing the first three Kraft classes from the pine stands of the age classes V and VI growing in conditions of the following forest site types: fresh coniferous forest (FCF) and mixed fresh coniferous forest (MFCF). The experiments revealed that the growth site conditions and the biosocial tree position in the stand exerted some influence on the radial variability of the strength quality coefficient of Scots pine ( Pinus sylvestris L.) wood. Both the size of the tree crown as expressed by its volume and, first and foremost, the height of the position of the crown centre of gravity were important.
The Permaculture FAQ! I found a permaculture FAQ from alt.permaculture newsgroup The method involvedoutfitting the family with a pair of rabbits and seeds and teaching them http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/permacult/msg1118123110638.html

I thought it would be the best way to increase my education in Permaculture in a BIG way. And since I cant presently either buy books or go take workshops, I'd volunteer for the FAQ. I realize that this subject is SO much broader than most topics on Gardenweb that cover a single species of plant. But there are related forum topics out there. So It was suggested to me to ask for your suggestions for Topics. So Please do... Follow-Up Postings: Was thinking that using this as a template for the discussion might keep things on the central topics. Let me know what you think. The Ethics of Permaculture: Care for the Earth

Extractions: Return to WSC Case Menu Signalment : Adult, female, pregnant rabbit. History : This doe was part of an atherosclerosis study involving embryo transfer. This naturally impregnated doe was due to deliver on 4/07/97. She delivered one underdeveloped stillborn kit on 4/03/97 but failed to expel the others. She was lethargic and depressed and continued to be so on 4/04/97. The animal was euthanized and submitted for necropsy. Gross Pathology: The pubic symphysis was partially dilated, and a serosanguineous discharge was present within the vaginal canal. Both uterine horns were distended, with the right horn containing three partially macerated fetuses and the left horn containing two fetuses in similar stages of degeneration. The uterine wall was extremely friable and hemorrhagic, with fibrin strands on the serosal surface of the uterus. A total of seven placentas was noted, with four present on the right side and three on the left side. Both the placentas and the wall of the uterus appeared necrotic. Mild atherosclerosis was present involving the proximal aorta. The heart appeared grossly normal. The lungs were diffusely moderately congested. The liver was yellowish-brown with increased friability, consistent with lipidosis. The kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and GI tract appeared normal, with a moderate amount of ingesta present in the stomach.

The concentration of grape must or separation of select wine components can result in meaningful qualitative change of treated wine . The aim of the work was to evaluate the efficiencies of polyamide ACF 99 membrane (PCI Membrane Systems Ltd.) in the separation of alcohol and volatile acids from wine. The wine variety Veltlinské zelené by alcoholic strength 11,58 % was used for observation of alcohol separation with or without cooling wine samples. Separation of volatile acids was applied for wine variety Ryzlink vlaský in two variations: sample with the content of volatile acids 0,34 g. l and vinegar wine. During reverse osmosis there have been measured physical and chemical parameters of retentate and permeate. Under conditions cooling the content of alcohol in treated wine increased to 13,59 % and without using cooling was final alcoholic strength 11,75 %. In vinegar wine increased concentration of volatile acids from 5,82 g. l

Six properties, having both sheep and goats, in the States central wheatbelt have been quarantined, although the disease has only been detected in one goat at this stage. Agriculture WA is now discussing plans to eradicate the disease from the one affected property. >From Perth, David Cussons reports, ³Ovine Johne¹s disease was discovered in a goat, as part of an ongoing surveillance program, conducted by Agriculture WA. If not eradicated, it will jeopardise the OJD free zone status the state currently enjoys. Six properties in the area have been placed under quarantine, and with continued testing and tracing of stock movements, this number may increase. Agriculture WA and industry are also considering options for a compensation scheme to cover destocking requirements.² ProMED-mail th Street, Juneau, Alaska (907/586-7235).
