On the off-chance that anyone else shares my little vice, here are something over 400 mailing lists for readers and collectors. If you know of any lists that I've missed, please let me know. deanna@ramsaybooks.com Please keep in mind that there are strict netiquette rules for email lists, just as there are in the newsgroups. Make sure that you read the instructions for subscribing and unsubscribing from these lists before signing up! The mailing lists related to specific authors have become so numerous that I've given them a separate Author lists page. Commercial Lists These lists allow the buying and selling of books. BooksCanada - A forum for the discussion, buying, and selling of antiquarian, out of print, and secondhand books in Canada. (Besides, it's my list, so that means it has to be good, right?) Bibliophile - Most of the traffic on this list is postings of books for sale, or books wanted with a bit of information on book care, collecting, and miscellaneous events thrown in. This is - to the best of my knowledge - the longest running of all of the commercial lists. The volume is very, very high, so be sure you can handle a couple of hundred messages per day! Please do not email me any more questions concerning your papers as there is no easy way of researching a paper. You may think that using the Internet will make your job easier but "Net plagiarism" is on the rise and beware of professors/teachers using a service called Turnitin.com . There are many literary criticisms on the net, but it's best to start out with the following points in mind: 1. Find out what your teacher wants. If they want an original piece of work, then try to come up with your own theories and do some research to see if you can find any articles to back you up. One alternative way is to see first what the critics have said about the story you are planning to write about and then formulate your own thesis afterwards and then use the quotes to fit your ideas. 2. The award is named for the famous nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott who, together with his wife and a colleague, began a new era of picture books for young people. Publishers send a copy of each of their picture books published for children to the ALA's Association for Library Service to Children, whose committee makes the choice.

Extractions: In the following several pages, we set forth relevant background on this matter, and detail the reasons for our dissent in greater detail. Background It became readily apparent that Mr. Eberle and Mr. Gannon did not want the public to know of this connection. Shortly after Media Matters publicized this relationship to the American people, Talon quickly pulled its staff and reporter biographies from its website. It is, however, worth noting though that these biographies were still likely available at the time that Mr. Gannon and Talon requested access to the White House. According to White House Press Secretary Scott McClellean, only 20 to 25 day passes are handed out each day. Those passes are handled by the same staff assistant every day, and are given to members of the press who are not part of the Washington news corps generally, but are covering a very specific issue or event that the White House is addressing on that day.
Extractions: Full Review I first heard about and became interested in Lynne Withey's biography of Abigail Adams while reading David McCullough's amazing biography, John Adams . McCullough's work portrayed Abigail as an integral part of our second president's political career, and I wanted to know more about this formidable woman who had such a profound influence on the early US government. Withey's book satisfied my curiosity about Abigail Adams quite well. Having read individual biographies of both of the Adamses, I now feel that I have a good understanding of them as individuals and as political thinkers. I see Dearest Friend as an excellent complement to my reading of John Adams Withey takes a less adulatory approach to her subject than did McCullough, but I didn't mind this in the least. I believe that a biographer's duty is to present their subject as fully and as clearly as possible, without either judging them too harshly or concealing their faults. Few biographers manage this however. To her great credit, Withey struck this difficult balance quite well.

Extractions: BOOK NEWS AND REVIEWS There are many books about the craft of writing that can help gifted students understand how authors develop their ideas into interesting stories, essays and articles. The examples presented here are concerned with describing how an individual's life experiences can influence one to become a writer. These life experiences are related to family background, cultural and environmental influences, and the books which have made an impact upon writers' lives. For the Love of Books: 115 Celebrated Writers on the Books They Love Most (2000) by Ronald B. Shwartz (Editor). Berkley Books, New York. Outstanding writers such as Diane Ackerman, Dave Barry, Jacques Barzun, Art Buchwald, Anne Fadiman, Clifton Fadiman, Alfred Kazin, Doris Lessing, Norman Mailer, Arthur Miller, Cynthia Ozick, John Updike and Kurt Vonnegut discuss the books that have been influential in their lives and work. The most interesting parts of these brief essays are the surprising choices which reveal something about their personalities and sensibility to various areas of literature. In this regard, Diane Ackerman, an outstanding nature writer, discusses how the poems of Dylan Thomas, Wallace Stevens and Randall Jarrell affected her life. On the other hand, many writers make selections parallel to their writing interests. For example, Dave Barry, an author of humorous essays, was influenced by the works of Robert Benchley and P.G. Wodehouse. Some specific books that caught his attention were
