Soon, WYMS will be playing music and radio you never get to hear. The new format will support musicians and bring much-needed creativity to music radio. It will also focus on the needs of Milwaukee Public Schools parents and offer students valuable educational opportunities. The Milwaukee School Board, which owns WYMS, unanimously awarded Radio For Milwaukee a contract in November 2004 to operate the station. Radio For Milwaukee, a local non-profit group, has begun conducting community research and developing the new programming and format for the station. For now, WYMS will continue to broadcast programming purchased from JazzWorks, a service that the station has used for the last few years.
