It is half-jokingly known as "generalized abstract nonsense Categories appear in most branches of mathematics, in some areas of theoretical computer science and mathematical physics , and have been a unifying notion. Categories were first introduced by Samuel Eilenberg and Saunders Mac Lane in , in connection with algebraic topology See list of category theory topics for a breakdown of relevant articles. The study of categories is an attempt to capture what is commonly found in various classes of related mathematical structures. Consider the following example. The class Grp of groups consists of all objects having a "group structure". More precisely, Grp consists of all sets G endowed with a binary operation satisfying a certain set of axioms . One can proceed to prove theorems about groups by making logical deductions from the set of axioms. For example, it is immediately proved from the axioms that the

Extractions: Regular View Dictionary View (all words explained) Algebra Help my dictionary with pronunciation , wikipedia etc In mathematics , a binary operation , or binary operator , is a calculation involving two input quantities and one kind of a specific operation. It is sometimes called a dyadic operation as well. Examples include the familiar arithmetic operations of addition subtraction multiplication and division More precisely, a binary operation on a set S is a binary function from S and S to S , in other words a function f from the Cartesian product S S to S . Sometimes, especially in computer science , the term is used for any binary function . That f takes values in the same set S that provides its arguments is the property of closure Binary operations are the keystone of algebraic structures studied in abstract algebra : they form part of groups monoids semigroups rings , and more. Most generally, a magma is a set together with any binary operation defined on it. Many binary operations of interest in both algebra and formal logic are commutative or associative . Many also have identity elements and inverse elements . Typical examples of binary operations are the addition (+) and multiplication (*) of numbers and matrices as well as composition of functions on a single set.
Online Rationale But composition teachers do more than just teach students how to put down words on could then successfully revise and polish the paper without my help, http://daphne.palomar.edu/christine/e100/onlinerationale.htm
Extractions: Please read through both rationalesone for the English class and one for the Learning Community. Teaching Rationale English Writing is a skill that can be taught. But composition teachers do more than just teach students how to put down words on a piece of paper without making many errors, in some meaningful fashion, for some rhetorical purpose (sometimes not the student's own). Teachers should also be helping students learn how to think, recognize interesting and original thoughts, and express these thoughts in an effective manner, because then the resulting essays will be significant, relevant, meaningful, interesting, creative, original, and profound. This is the harder of the two tasks to perform. Students need to learn to evaluate other writing (both professional essays and other students' papers) to help them determine what is effective, what constitutes an interesting subject or approach. They also need much practice in writing their own essays and hearing/ seeing/getting feedback from others on whether they were effective, interesting, and clear. Reading and discussing professional essays and participating in the generation of evaluation criteria will help students be more aware of what makes for an outstanding essay.
Extractions: Backpacks are very important for little ones to carry. The backpack (or "packpack" as some lovingly call it) makes them feel grown up. We would like for the backpack to be sent to school every day so that we can send home necessary items. Please send a regular sized backpack that will hold traditional folders, notebooks, etc. Many of the pull-along backpacks will not fit in the small cubbies and cause for the little ones to have trouble in the hallway. There will not be anything too heavy for your child to carry. Also, the smaller character backpacks (turtles, ladybugs, teddy bears, dogs, etc.) do not hold folders and other school items. Agendas/Folders Your child will be bringing home an agenda every day after school. This will contain any homework or notes that are important. Please check the agenda every day and return it the following school day. Encourage your child to take good care of the agenda and remember to bring it every day. It will serve as a great "Memory" book to track progress throughout the year.

Extractions: SENTINEL FEATURES EDITOR Chick Corea played a concert stunning in its artistry Saturday, showing once again what a treasure the Kuumbwa Jazz Center has created with its intimate setting and top-notch programming. The full house applauded, clapped and jumped to its feet as provoked by the accomplished performance and songs from the new release, "To the Stars." Corea has an almost four-decade career behind him, teaming with some of the best musicians in the jazz world, including Miles Davis. In fact, Corea was seen in his younger years in the Kuumbwas Friday screening of "Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue," a documentary on the transformation of Davis music from acoustic to electric. The early show opened with "Check Blast," musically simulating the take-off of a space ship. It was sharp and fast with a tight interplay between players. Moody "Passage" music on the keyboards bridged the moments between songs, just like on the album. Then the band swung into "Mistress Luck" with a Latin beat and clear melody. It really showcased the Corea style and the ease and confidence with which he plays. Especially enjoyable was the interaction between acoustic piano and bass, played by Ric Fierbracci, and the shimmery, layered quality of the song.

Selling Sno-Cones At The Beach: March 2005 Archives Due to poor time management, I ended up finishing my polish homework in our socalled grad I just hate that grey dust of vinyl composition flooring. http://blog.lib.umn.edu/archives/otto0114/otto0114/2005_03.html
Extractions: Main I parked in the driveway tonight after class, because I think both my Critical Area Parking sticker and my registration sticker (called a "tab" here in MN for some reason) expire at midnight. I was too busy all day to stick them on, and too lazy tonight to deal with it in the dark. I actually LIKE teaching when I get into the room, but I'm always racked with apprehension and insecurity all day beforehand. I think class was ok - although I need to do a LOT more research on the fundamentals of intellectual property law and I also need to improve the "zoning game" exercise I premiered tonight. I think next time it will be really fun. Tomorrow is the day I've been waiting for all week: time to work on my reading lists. Then, a slightly lighter week than usual next week: no proseminar; a shorter book in history seminar; really solid materials for my own class. Posted by otto0114 at 10:19 PM Comments (0) Due to poor time management, I ended up finishing my Polish homework in our so-called "grad lab" yesterday. This was a huge mistake on my part. First, the room is filthy: that grey institutional dust on the floor that gets all over your coat or bookbag or anything else you set down there; the tables dusty, coffee-stained, and covered with bits of candy wrapper or whatever my colleagues were too "busy" to throw in the trash. Second, you get about 20 linear inches for your work space, including the keyboard and mouse, so your text(s) have to be managed from your lap. Third, it's full of conversations and comings-and-goings. (Fourth, I'd really not thought about whether the lab computers support Polish character sets (they don't) and so I had to add all my accent marks by hand, a total drag and an invitation to lots of errors.)

Feedback From English 106i_1 The blog is fine for me but since it is also my homework I hate it. not only help students to start early but also will push the students to polish up http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~lmoussu/2003_12_01_feedback106i.html
Extractions: Please take some time THIS week to write here about your English class. What you write here is completely ANONYMOUS (your name does NOT appear after your entries!) and will NOT affect your grades in any way! *I liked the fact our teacher was non-native english speaker. Since this class is for foreign students, having non-native english speaker teacher gave us more understanding. Sometimes the feed back entery was kind of annoying. However, whenever I was having trouble with writing my paper, I could share some of ideas with other and gave me good start. Course web page was I would say, the best thing to have. It let us have the newest information from teacher. other things listed on #2 all helped me for this class, and far more for my future classes. * Being in English 106i is a first advantage for us as national students. The environment will be less scary because we don't have to compete with native students who already advanced in English because this is their native language. It doesn't mean that in this main stream class national students will work harder but they will burn out and lose confidence when they have to compare themselves with native English speaking student. Language needs time to absorb and it is difficult to advance if students hadn't had many chances to communicate, to be familiar with American culture and many related aspects such as advanced technology.

Dynow, Poland - Pages 4-44 He felt that life was a beautiful composition. Nature, trees and forest animals sing some of his schoolmates that he used to help with their homework. http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/dynow/dyn004.html
Extractions: Table of Contents [Page 4] empty [Page 5] I wrote the book about Dynow in order to erect a tombstone for the murdered Jews of Dynow. This being the third catastrophe for the Jewish People (Editor: Allusion to the first and second destruction of the temples in Jerusalem). I do not consider myself worthy of the task but having been a personal witness to the terrible destruction of our city, I feel the inner need to relate my experiences. I still see the picture of the terrible slaughter that took place the second day of Rosh Hashana in 1939 in Dynow. I still see the bodies of our brothers that were left unattended in the forest surrounding Dynow, the torched synagogue and the cremated bodies inside and finally the total expulsion of the Jews from the city. The shtetl Dynow has a rich history of Jewish life. Many years ago it was an important center of Torah learning and Hassidism then it was suddenly destroyed. All Jewish signs disappeared, even the tombstones at both Jewish cemeteries were destroyed by the vandals. [Page 6] I devoted a great deal of time and energy to write the book. I did not write it under the influence of a drunken spell, it is written in blood and tears that can not always be regulated or controlled. Sometimes the writing overflows the banks and at other times it proceeds with harshness.
