Comprepoetica Features a survey form for poets, critics, editors, publishers and readers. Its main purpose is to provide data for the biographical entries in the Comprepoetica Dictionary of Contemporary American Poetry, Poetics and poets. http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/1492/index.html
Extractions: My intention in creating this site, which officially opened on Columbus Day 1997, is ecumenical. I want it to represent everyone writing and/or commenting on poetry. I want it to be a center where not only information on unrecognized poets (like ME ) can be found, but information on the many entire schools of poetry that few not members of them are aware of. Toward that end, I have set up a biographical dictionary that anyone calling himself either a poet or a poetry critic, or both, can get his bio into simply by filling out a form (see the table of contents below) or e.mailing his bio to me at bobgrumman@nut-n-but.net. I encourage you to include a page or two of your own poetry, and something by some poet you admire, for I want actual poems (from all schools, however few may seem so far to be represented here) to be a major presence at Comprepoetica . Because I consider discussions of poetry almost as important as poetry itself for generating interest in poetry, I have also provided sections to which anyone whose submission is not totally incomprehensible or unrelated to poetry can contribute poets' statements, criticism, definitions of terminology and the like. Please do not be put off by the fact that most of the texts so far collected here are by

Copying it is encouraged. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ EDITOR'S NOTE: The series of papers on the Greek Christian Poets (from which the following translations are excerpted) appeared first in the -Athenaeum- between the months of February and August, 1842. They were reprinted along with a second series of papers on the English poets contributed to the same periodical in a small separate volume, two years after Mrs. Browning's death. ( The Greek Christian Poets and the English Poets , by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, London. Chapman and Hall, 1863.) As a mere girl, Miss Barrett had read the Greek Fathers in the original, under the guidance of the blind scholar, Hugh Stewart Boyd, who was deeply versed in them and could repeat from memory pages of their works both in prose and verse. A playful allusion to his especial enthusiasm for Saint Gregory Nazianzen occurs in Mrs. Browning's poem 'Wine of Cyprus', which was dedicated to Mr. Boyd: "Do you mind that deed of Ate Which you bound me to so fast, Reading "-De Virginitate-", From the first line to the last? How I said, at the ending solemn, As I turned and looked at you, That Saint Simeon on that column, Had had somewhat less to do?" -HARRIET WATERS PRESTON, Editor.
