In other words, you will not just learn what scientists know, you will learn how they know. You will practice using the logic of scientific inquiry to make sense of your own observations of everyday physical events using the same. You will make observations during classroom experiments, activities and demonstrations. You will also make careful observations outside of class of the motions of the sun, moon, and stars throughout the course of the semester.

Outreach (K-12) Focus on science is a full week of handson science activities in Physics onthe Road. Demo s. The primary departmental outreach effort is the school http://www.physics.purdue.edu/outreach/index.shtml
Extractions: Purdue's Department of Physics has developed a highly successful outreach program, PEARLS, that brings the excitement of physical science to many students who would not otherwise be exposed to physics. It also encourages teachers and parents to motivate students to pursue careers in science, engineering, and technology. Purdue brings PEARLS of Science wisdom to your school. A full-time coordinator creates, directs, and implements PEARLS outreach efforts. Physics Outreach offers several learning opportunities for various educational needs. The need for the PEARLS Outreach program is clearly demonstrated by its enthusiastic reception and favorable impact on precollege science education in the Midwest. Purdue's PEARLS program can serve as a model, which can be adopted by other Universities, to advance science education throughout the United States. Some of the outreach activities are outlined below. Focus on Science is a full week of hands-on science activities in elementary and middle schools. The program seeks to excite and enlighten students about the importance of science in their daily lives. It exposes teachers to classroom activities that combine excitement, cooperative learning, and participatory activites with real-world relevance. Highlights of the week include a convocation on science demonstrations, grade-level hands-on science activites for each day, and an evening parent-student hands-on acitivity. Teacher in service programs are also available.

Science Core Demo Liubo Borissov received bachelor s degrees in mathematics and physics from Caltechand a Frontiers of science is being provided to you for your own use. http://www.sciencecore.columbia.edu/demo/web/main/bios.html
Extractions: Liubo Borissov received bachelor's degrees in mathematics and physics from Caltech and a doctoral degree in physics from Columbia University. His interests include physics and electronic music, and he is currently Alberto Vilar Global Fellow in the Performing Arts and a Columbia Science Fellow. In physics, Borissov focuses on neutrinos and theories on the conservation of parity. In music his main interests are creating alloys between art, science, and technology. Wally Broecker graduated from Columbia College and received his doctorate from Columbia University. He has been a member of the Columbia faculty since 1959 and is currently Newberry Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Wally Broecker was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1979 and was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1996. His research has tied the global transport of heat energy by ocean currents (the ocean conveyor belt) to abrupt shifts of the Earth's climate. Julio Fernandez graduated from the University of Chile and received his Ph.D. from UCLA. He joined the faculty of Columbia University in 2002 and is currently professor of biological sciences. In 2001 he was named Fellow of the American Heart Association. Fernandez's primary research interest is the stability and folding dynamics of modular proteins as investigated by an atomic-force microscope. With this instrument he measures the force needed to unfold single protein domains.
