JASON @ OMSI Monday Memo: January 17, 2005 We hope you all had a good holiday weekend. We have lots to tell you about the upcoming Broadcast, including how to see footage without having to travel to OMSI. We have an update on what's happening on Mars, and how to get some fun space-related gear. For those of you looking to enhance your professional development or earn graduate credits, the JASON Academy has a bunch of new online courses for you. See below for details. IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE BROADCAST! We're busily preparing for the JASON Broadcasts and want to mention a few things to the teachers who are bringing their classes to OMSI.M.o JASON Logo Sign for Bus Please print out the JASON logo and tape it to the side window closest to the door of your bus(es). There will be many other non-JASON school groups here that week, and this sign will help our staff identify your group more quickly.

A small vibration sensor, attached to a computer display, graphically monitors the intermittent motion. This motion mimics the intermittent fault slippage (elastic rebound) that characterizes the earthquake fault z.

Project Compute is housed in the Rainier Community Center, which serves primarily African American families. Together we will offer periodic workshops for parents and families as a way to increase their own knowledge of design and engineering. We feel it is important that families know what students are doing so they can help with their take-home projects and offer support. One aspect of this effort is a collaborative effort to develop a booklet of K-12 activities, training materials, and a web site. At the coalition level, this work will contribute to a large effort to catalogue all of ECSEL¹s K-14 projects. This catalogue will include text, digital, and internet resources. In addition we will design, organize and host workshops at national conferences such as the National Council of Teacher Association, National Science Teacher Association, American Society of Engineering Education, WEPAN and student organizations (NSBE, AISES, WISE).

To study Physics we suggest you start with our chemistry page to learn about the atom, molecular structure and the elements. Then turn your attention to mathematics electronics biology microscopy , and space . You will then have a good background to learn about physics. We won't repeat material on this physics page that is covered elsewhere at 101science.com. The world wide web physics links have been moved to our new physics links page. Be sure to check them out as there is much to be learned there also.
