It recognizes the originality and inventive ability of a new librarian who devises new and improved methods in library service on a statewide or local level, and who demonstrates promise for continued growth in librarianship." We nominate Clara Hudson for the Award, to be presented by the Pennsylvania Library Association in 2004. We often wondered how she did it. She never confused her three roles, that of public librarian, academic librarian, and library student, which may have been difficult at times since she often had only 30 minutes to change hats (although she did say it was difficult remembering how to answer the phone). She was unfailingly professional in her demeanor, despite the strain she must have been felt at times. A word about her public library experience. At Mount Carmel , she implemented children's year-round story time that included the statewide summer reading program. Under her leadership, the Mount Carmel Library circulation statistics significantly increased. While there, she also wrote a successful grant to the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation allowing the library to receive several public access computers and a high-speed cable line and network. (Previously the library had 3 telephone lines for computer access.) At the Mill Memorial Library in Nanticoke , she implemented a fundraising drive, raising over $10,000 the first year, more than doubling the initial goal.

Extractions: George Washington Papers Home George Washington is one of twenty-three presidents whose papers are in the Manuscript Division, Library of Congress. The Papers of George Washington was microfilmed in 1964 as part of the Presidential Papers Project instituted by Congress in 1957. The Washington Papers has now become the first manuscript collection to be digitized in its entirety from microfilm. The collection is available online in its entirety. Digital images of negative-format photostats of three letterbooks (28, 29, and 30 of Series 2) owned by the National Archives and Records Administration and microfilmed with the Washington Papers have been replaced with positive-format digital images from film provided by the National Archives. Selected original items from the Addenda to the George Washington Papers have been digitized and added to the online collection as well. These letters, survey documents, and other materials were acquired after the bulk of the collection had been processed and microfilmed. Extractions: Back to Course Catalog Back to General Information King's College participates on several levels in programs of academic cooperation with other educational institutions. The seven independent colleges of Northeastern Pennsylvania comprise the membership of NEPIC (Northeastern Pennsylvania Independent Colleges). The administrative officers of these institutions meet regularly during the academic year to discuss matters of common concern and to plan cooperative action in the interest of higher education in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Northeastern Pennsylvania Library Network The D. Leonard Corgan Library is a member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Library Network, a consortium of academic, public and special libraries in the Hazleton/Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. The organization was established in 1956 for the purpose of resource sharing through interlibrary lending, since no library can be entirely self-sufficient. Affiliated with the NPLN is a group of fourteen hospital and nursing school libraries comprising the Health Information Library Network of Northeastern Pennsylvania (HILNNEP). NPLN maintains a regional online catalog and publishes a Union List of Periodicals and Newspapers. Through cooperative arrangements with NEPIC member colleges and the NEPBC, students and faculty may borrow directly from the libraries of NEPIC members.

Extractions: Alice Doty Weirnecke collection. The collection is 22 file cabinets large, and is one of the larger collections in a public library in the Midwest. Many of the items have been cataloged in a database but most don't show up in a search of WorldCat. And there is still a good portion of it that hasn't been put in the catalog. (We still have a card catalog for the file cabinets.) Along with the file cabinets, we have a whole range of sheet music books - mostly pop, show music, etc. Contact the library for more information:

Extractions: CALL NUMBERS / SUBJECTS This page lets you browse online books by their Library of Congress call number category, which arranges books by their main topic. (More information below .) Books with similar main topics will often appear near each other when you browse, often allowing you to find multiple books on a subject that interests you. Categories Select one of the general topic areas below to start browsing. If you would like to see a general overview of the topics covered in a category, select the "Overview" link next to a topic. Notes Library of Congress Call Numbers play a role similar to the Dewey Decimal numbers found in many public libraries, but are based on a different category system. The Library of Congress system is used by most larger research libraries in the US, and a similar system is also used in Canada. Most of our books have call numbers, but a small portion of them (about 1/6 at present) do not. Rare books, children's books, and old popular fiction that's no longer popular are more likely not to have a call number compared to other kinds of books. You can look for books without call numbers in our author and title listings, however. In physical libraries, books have only one call number, which determines where they get shelved. In theory, it should be possible to assign multiple call numbers to online books, so that they can be found under multiple topics in the "virtual shelves". As a practical matter, though, we can only support one call number per book at present. We try to choose ones that put books in their most relevant category. We may offer more versatile subject browsing options (possibly based on things other than call numbers) in the future.
