The Pennsylvania Autism Taskforce (Physical disability and/or chronic conditions Other dev. disabilities CP, education pennsylvania is not in compliance with any of the Individual s http://www.kidstogether.org/PAFACTS.htm
Extractions: Over 1 million people with severe disabilities in Pennsylvania receive no support or services. This is not a Down syndrome issue, a cerebral palsy issue, an autism issue, a mental retardation issue, a mental health issue, a brain or spinal injury issue, an aging issue, or even just a disability issue. This is an issue that affects all Pennsylvanians. It affects our families, our children, our neighbors, friends, co-workers, classmates and loved ones. Almost 100% of people at some time in their lives will know and care about a person who has a disability. 50% of all people will have a disability themselves at some time in their life. Pennsylvania needs to start putting its citizens first! Pa use to be a forerunner in meeting the needs of people with disabilities, and now ranks among the lowest in meeting people's needs. The facts below speak for themselves, most are taken directly from Pa's state website. Many people believe that because some agencies and services exist for certain "categories" of people with disabilities, that all people with disabilities are well served. Reality is... even those that meet existing criteria for support are unsupported, on waiting lists or receiving poor supports, and most just don't qualify. 2,348,555 People With Disabilities In PA

Adult Education Summer Institute dev Ravindran, Application Programmer for Adult education, Kansas Board of Regents, These sessions will provide adult education program staff members an http://www.dce.ksu.edu/summerinstitute/description.html
Extractions: The University of Kansas, Center for Research on Learning, as part of a Research and Demonstration Project with the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, confirmed that adult educators need and desire information and training on how to work with and effectively accommodate adult learners with varying disabilities and on the legal issues involved in doing so. This workshop will focus on the adult educator's role in addressing those needs and specifically address activities appropriate to adult education instructors (as opposed to program directors). Participants will receive a copy of the Accommodations Notebook. This workshop will certify participants to administer, score, and make instructional decisions based upon the CASAS assessments. Participants will learn how to use the ABE and ESL appraisals and diagnostic assessments and other available resources for their programs. The workshop focuses on how to administer and interpret CASAS assessments, how to place learners into appropriate education programs, how to assess learning gains, and how to link assessment to curriculum and instruction. The session covers how to target instruction to CASAS competencies and how to assess, monitor and certify learners progress in reading, math, and listening. At the end of the session, participants complete a certification activity and submit a training verification form that qualifies them to order and implement selected CASAS materials.
