Attachment Disorder Site - Providing Hope And Support. Provides information and support to persons dealing with attachment disorder and the many related problems that these children face. Also includes information on parenting, treatment, and school issues. http://www.attachmentdisorder.net
Extractions: Greetings Welcome to the Attachment Disorder Site, home of the Attachment Disorder Email List. Here you will find a wide variety of information to help you understand attachment issues. Attachment Disorders range in severity. In fact, the attachment continuum runs from securely attached through degrees of attachment issues all the way to those who suffer from severe attachment disorder as in my son's case. With the addition of hundreds of children adopted from institutional settings and from the foster care system, it is important for all of us to become educated regarding the potential and unique problems these children and their families face. It is by this understanding that we can forge ahead and learn to help our families heal. We must also remember that all adopted and foster care kids do not suffer from attachment disorder. A lot has to do with the individuals themselves - their physiological and psychological make-up, the type of environment they were in and the duration they were in that environment. With this in mind, we do not want people to become wary of adoption because of attachment disorder. We want people to become educated about it. I often wish I had known what was wrong sooner as I look back on years that were spent utilizing ineffective therapies and parenting strategies. We would have started on the road to healing sooner.

Parenting Babies And Toddlers A comprehensive guide to all aspects of parenting babies and toddlers, including child development, health and safety. http://babyparenting.about.com/mbody.htm
Extractions: Nutrabella recently sent some of their new BellyBars my way, and I have to say, I'm not normally a fan of cereal or nutrition bars at all. They always taste like... well, something other than food to me. And I'm on a mission to rid myself of trans fat, so that rules out most of those bars anyhoo. But these bars Wow. I was impressed. They tasted like food! And they were portable. And delicious. And healthy. Imagine such a thing. I am hoping that this is a new trend in nutrition easy-to-consume food that is made just for pregnant moms. Sure, a healthy, well-balanced diet provides all that, but reality is that many women don't get all the nutrition they need. Especially when it comes to folic acid. According to the March of Dimes, studies show that 70 percent of all neural tube defects could be prevented if all women were getting the right amount of this essential vitamin. Schneier On Security: Technological Parenting EDITED TO ADD Here s a link to the book Paranoid parenting. Listed beloware links to weblogs that reference Technological parenting http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2005/08/technological_p.html
Extractions: Bruce Schneier Home Weblog Crypto-Gram Newsletter Books ... Contact Information A weblog covering security and security technology. Main Salon has an interesting article about parents turning to technology to monitor their children, instead of to other people in their community. "What is happening is that parents now assume the worst possible outcome, rather than seeing other adults as their allies," says Frank Furedi, a professor of sociology at England's University of Kent and the author of "Paranoid Parenting." "You never hear stories about asking neighbors to care for kids or coming together as community. Instead we become insular, privatized communities, and look for technological solutions to what are really social problems." Indeed, while our parents' generation was taught to "honor thy neighbor," the mantra for today's kids is "stranger danger," and the message is clear expect the worst of anyone unfamiliar anywhere, and at any time. This is security based on fear, not reason. And I think people who act this way make their families less safe.

Extractions: DR. YARNELL CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST Is your child or adolescent giving you problems? Do you have a parenting question or need help from an expert? Do you wish you had an instruction manual? Stop worrying and do something about it. Let Dr. Yarnell answer some of your questions about bringing up your children. Dr. Thomas Yarnell is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with more than 30 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. He will answer your parenting questions on this website. If you have a question, email him at DrTomY242@aol.com or mail your question to him at 185 Kenmore Ave., Biloxi, MS 39531. Dr. Yarnell will not use names and will not identify anyone by name who asks a question. Parent: I am a single parent. How do I motivate my teenager to continue to be a good student when the other parent doesn't care? Dr. Yarnell: Keep in mind that you can only be responsible for yourself. In a perfect world, your ex-spouse would encourage your teenager also. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Provide lots of positive attention for good grades. Encourage your teen to explore career opportunities in the areas they are interested in. The motivation you referred to must come from within them if it's going to be effective. That's why they will work harder to reach a goal they want rather than one you've picked for them. Getting good grades is often not as important as being with friends or playing. Verbal reinforcement may not be strong enough to overcome the pull from friends and other fun activities. The way around this is to make using the car, phone, stereo, etc. depend on their grades. Good grades gets good perks.
