Ahearn asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the number of people awaiting orthodontal treatment in South Tipperary; the number being treated at present; the number awaiting assessment; and if he will outline the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that those awaiting treatment will be treated before it is too late. Minister for Health (Dr. O'Connell) John F. O'Connell Minister for Health (Dr. O'Connell): I understand from the South Eastern Health Board that there are 565 children undergoing specialist orthodontic treatment in south Tipperary and there are 184 on the waiting list for such treatment. 193 children are awaiting assessment. Urgent cases are treated as a matter of urgency. There has been a significant improvement in the level of orthodontic services in the south Tipperary area as a result of the additional moneys made available by the Government. In addition a full-time Consultant Orthodontist will be taking up appointment with the board after the summer which will result in further improvement in the provision of orthodontic services in the region. Find my dentist Tip #1 for Children and Dental Visits: Don't let your child know if you are feeling anxious about going to see the dentist. Set a good example by brushing your own teeth twice a day, flossing, eating a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco, and visiting the dentist regularly. Don't let anyone tell your child scary stories about dental care visits. Answer all their questions positively, and avoid using words such as "hurt" or "ouch".
Extractions: LAST WEEK Kyleen Michael said goodbye to popcorn. She said sayonara to peanuts. Auf Wiedersehen to ice. Adios to corn on the cob. Adieu to chips and crunchy pizza crust. This left the 14-year-old wondering what was left in life. ``Can I chew gum?'' she asked weakly. ``No, no, a thousand times no,'' retorted Dr. Steven Hearne, her orthodontist. Michael grinned, flashing brand new braces on her upper teeth. Then she brushed her tongue across her braces and pulled her lip down over the dental hardware. ``What she's doing is the orthodontic grimace,'' Hearne said, joking. ``All the kids do it at first, it just feels so strange to have braces on.'' Michael had a right to grimace. She'd just spent almost an hour lying prostrate on the orthodontist's chair, her mouth stretched to unbelievable width by a mechanical mouth-opening device while Hearne methodically glued ceramic brackets to her teeth, then threaded a flexible wire through the brackets. When it was over, Michael sat up and looked a bit dazed.
Surgeon & Safari GMTV The orthodontal Tourist. Dentists in farflung destinations are giving Britishholidaymakers something to smile about, says Ellen Himelfarb. Dental basics http://www.surgeon-and-safari.co.za/news/dailytelegraph2.html
Extractions: Press Clippings The Orthodontal Tourist Dentists in far-flung destinations are giving British holidaymakers something to smile about, says Ellen Himelfarb Dental basics How does the song go? "I'd walk a million miles for one of your smiles"? Ah, but how far would you travel to buy not just a new smile, but a whole new mouth - or, at the very least, a crown, a filling or a smart porcelain veneer? Perhaps not a million miles, but certainly to New York, Thailand, the Caribbean or any of the other destinations increasingly patronised by holidaymakers with famously bad British teeth. Travelling abroad for a nip and a tuck here, an implant or a Botox jab there - and combining the surgery with a recuperative spell on the beach - is now well established. Dental tourism, however, is the latest thing, with more and more travellers offsetting the misery of chair, drill and "open wide" by shopping, sunbathing and sightseeing while recovering feeling in Novocaine-numbed mouths. Tooth-led tourism was pioneered in New York, most famously by Martin Amis in the mid-1990s, since when the city's dentists have been telling orally challenged celebs such as Sophie Dahl and Kate Moss that "this really won't hurt at all". Where visitors used to schedule a massage and facial between trips to Barney's, they now squeeze in some face-changing time with Marc Lowenberg or Gregg Lituchy at their clinic overlooking Central Park.

He isnt freaked out by, he just wont cooperate. We hold him down to brush teeth, but he doesnt cry. Here is my problem: The denist office said they take the child back and if they cry they just get several people to hold him down, since at least they can see in if they cry. Then they bring parents back to discuss what they see. !!!Dont let parents back. I am freaking over this. He will just be 3 and what a horrible experience, what will he think of denist? All that suffereing just to take a look. Why not let parents go back show its safe and fun. Have us tickle him to open mouth!!! Im so upset I probably going to find another denist even if I have to drive to another town. I just wanted him since I went to him and loved it. I also understood what was going on and had been to another before. What would you all do? What do you do? Are then denist out there who can handle our kiddos? What about his seizures, how will they know if he has one if im not there to point it out? Its just a jerk but he will have 5-15....im sooo upset..just venting sorry! Ginger Hi Ginger
Autism Information -age Appropriate Behavior an orthodontal adult pacifier gotten at the advice of our dentist) are somehowsome sort of contraband as far as his dayprogram is concerned. http://www.autism-pdd.net/testdump/test303.htm
Extractions: Home To Message Boards Site Map Back to Autism Information Next Topic i know most of your children are younger. my son is 19 and i am sitting here thinking how many age appropriate things he does. even though they are so behind in many things we must always try to treat them age appropriately. today we are going to take my other son pat for his drivers liscense test, number 4. when he took it the first time frank put an icon on the class calendar of a car on the date pat was taking his test. teacher wrote and asked what was happening. did not even know that frank aware of pat taking drivers ed etc. thought about how this is a typical teenage thing and he was interested in his brother getting his liscense. he has since put the icon up at every retest. do not know how he knows what the dates are. today we are all going to go and frank will watch as his brother passes his test. Colt845, congradulations to both your son's (one for the driving test, the other for being able to share in this event) I will be thinking of them and hoping all goes well. Stevie'sMom Good Luck to your son on test # 4!! Driving...I have mixed emotions on this topic! My son will be 16 soon...failed the permit test 3 times, but managed to pass behind the wheel. The instructor mercifully did not take him to drive in a nearby larger city! She goes to our church....I jjokingly said we should ask for special prayer for her as she would be teaching him to drive and riding in the car with him behind the wheel!! Part of me remembers the trouble he had learning to ride a bike....looking more off to the side than ahead of himself.....Another part of me would like him to be driving like others his age. (then he could run to the store for me so I wouldn't have to go out in this frigid weather!)

Tongue-tied So , orthodontal problems maybe due to a combination of variabilities in themouth structure of your grandsons , including the tonguetie.. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Maternal/archive/2458.html
Extractions: One doctor has said that the membrane under the tongue is no longer clipped as was done in previous years...our grandson's orthodontist has said that because his tongue membrane was not cut soon enough, he didn't learn to swallow correctly and is now having orthodontal(?) problems. Our new grand-daughter appears to be "tongue-tied" also and her pediatrician has said it doesn't matter. Could you please explain this "condition" so that I can give my son and his wife more information. They can then make a better decision as to whether or not to further pursue what needs to be done. Thank you.
