At the tail end of the very first Cycle Oregon tour, the sun was out and we all felt great. Hundreds of riders lingered that afternoon, reluctant to call it a day. So moved had we been by the warmth of the welcomes we had received in so many small towns along our route that we wanted to give a little something, anything, back. Not knowing what else to do, we passed the hat, raised a few thousand dollars, and then pledged to share it with people working on community development projects in the regions through which we had ridden. Today that pot of gratitude, The Cycle Oregon Fund, contains almost $1 million. Each year, all proceeds from our tours are added to the Fund, from which we currently make annual grants totaling approximately $100,000 to assist a wide range of projects throughout the state.
