Keynote speaker for the evening is retired Gen. Colin Powell. These first recipients of the award demonstrate the same kind of commitment to the area as early philanthropist Simon Benson. Bragdon, former president of Reed College and the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology, is president of the Portland Central Library Foundation, which has raised more than $8 million; president of the Oregon Garden Foundation; and board member of Chamber Music Northwest.
