Trans Dev - Research Abstracts III The objectives of this project were to crash test the oregon Standard (32inch)F-shape A guidebook was produced to provide guidance to ODOT staff for http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/TD/TP_RES/AbstractsIII.shtml
Extractions: Abstracts III Vegetation and Riprap Analysis of Design Attributes Finite Element Modeling Precast Concrete Barrier ... Lane Transit District Project Vegetation and Riprap Roadway Applications of Vegetation and Riprap for Streambank Protection Riprap is commonly used for roadway protection at streams. However, vegetation is generally not a component of such protection. Environmental impacts such as increased water temperature and decreased quality of stream habitat may result from the removal of riparian vegetation during riprap construction. Near waterways containing threatened or endangered species, regulatory agencies require that remedial measures be taken if riparian vegetation is removed. This study considered issues and options for streambank protection. An overview and analysis of the literature is provided. Roles for vegetation as part of streambank protection are considered. Techniques are given for use of vegetation with riprap and potential project opportunities are described. A comprehensive list of suitable species for streamside stabilization and riparian enhancement is included. Precast Concrete Barrier Precast Concrete Barrier Crash Testing The objectives of this project were to crash test the Oregon Standard (32-inch) F-shape precast concrete barrier and the Oregon Tall (42-inch) F-shape precast concrete barrier against the new NCHRP Report 350 standards, to ensure compliance of these safety systems. FHWA has required that such systems are acceptable under NCHRP standards by no later than October 2002. The results of the Test Level 3 crash tests showed that both barriers meet NCHRP requirements. Furthermore, FHWA acknowledged both barriers as having the best performance of any free-standing precast concrete barriers to date. The research report also discusses the performance of the Tall F-shape barrier in a Test Level 4 crash test, involving an 8,000 kg single-unit truck. The barrier passed this test as well.

Inside Oregon We have a responsibility to our state to maintain the quality education that Six fulltime staff will maintain the fMRI facility, which will operate http://comm.uoregon.edu/inside/2002/10-30-02.html
Extractions: October 30, 2002 by Gaye Vandermyn To thrive in the current season of adversity, President Dave Frohnmayer last Friday called on members of the UO community to remember who we are, why we are here and what our mission is. "I am proud to be President of the University of Oregon," Frohnmayer told those gathered for the 2002 Convocation at Beall Concert Hall. "I am proud to be working with each of you to strengthen our universitya proud exemplar along with parliament and the church of this civilization's last surviving medieval institutions and in the case of the university, truly our most revolutionary modern one. I am determined, then, to carry on the mission that this university has delivered for the past 126 years. "We have a responsibility to our state to maintain the quality education that will prepare this generation and future ones for the ever-shifting... challenges that inevitably lie ahead. To do this, we also must address the great challenge of accessibility. If Oregon students cannot afford to attend the University of Oregon, it has in one sense ceased to be the University of Oregon. We cannot allow that to happen. "We have a responsibility to our state to maintain the quality education that will prepare this generation and future ones for the ever-shifting... challenges that inevitably lie ahead."
