The project ran from October 1, 2002 to September 30, 2003. The Ohio Memory Project has been designated an exemplary project because of the far reaching impact it has and will continue to have, as well as the numerous audiences it has touched. 2003 was Ohios Bicentennial Year and this project did much to promote Ohios bicentennial while bringing recognition to the Ohio Historical Society and the State Library of Ohio. The number of people served was very high. One of the key features of Ohio Memory is the My Scrapbook feature. This interactive feature allows users to create their own scrapbook based on favorite images or around a certain theme. (http://www.ohiomemory.org/featured.html) When demonstrated to teachers, they have applauded the personal scrapbook and many have already begun to incorporate it into their curriculum. Other special features include zooming, allowing visitors to magnify images or objects, transcripts of handwritten documents and collections related to National History Day themes.

With the increased visibility of the Information Superhighway, educators are clamoring for training in how to navigate and harness this vast resource. Developing an infrastructure for staff development is essential for integration of information access skills into the school curriculum. A school or district model for teaching Internet skills needs to include instructional design, facility development, hands-on workshops, follow- up training, and evaluation. By using these basic concepts, you can begin to change the way information is presented to students in the classroom. The teacher becomes a facilitator and students are empowered to be active, engaging learners. 1 Background 2 Facility Development 3 Instructional Design 4 Follow-Up ... Author Information The World Link Project addresses these concepts and establishes a model for other educators to follow. With an initial grant of $2,000 from the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, a training model was created and used with a prototype class of twenty teachers and curriculum supervisors in February, 1994.

The tuition aid, which has been available only in Cleveland since 1996, will allow as many as 14,000 additional students statewide to leave schools that persistently fail academic tests and move to private schools, beginning in the fall of 2006. The state's $51 billion budget that Gov. Bob Taft (R) signed Thursday includes funding for 14,000 children. The state will pay $4,250 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade and $5,000 for high school students.
