I just don't think I can advocate people feeding their kids tons of meat and dairy!! I am especially interested in working with indigo children (I am one myself) and kids with ADD/ADHD. Nutrition The Conference considers that the integration of nutrition into the work of FAO as a whole is of the utmost importance and emphasizes again the feet that the improvement of nutritional conditions is a basic objective of the Organization. With these ideas in mind, it has reviewed the work of the Organization in nutritional in 1949 and the program for 1950. Work of FAO The Conference expresses its approval of the work accomplished by FAO in the field of nutrition in 1949 and considers that satisfactory provision for extending and developing this work is made in the 1950 program. It notes that the studies of appropriate measures for application in school feeding and nutrition education programs, now being undertaken, are nearing completion, and that an analysis of the technique and interpretation of diet surveys has reached the stage of publication. It is the view of the Conference that in extending work in these fields in 1950 and 1951, the emphasis should be on providing direct technical assistance to governments in carrying out practical programs. Collaboration with Other Specialized Agencies The Conference notes that FAO is collaborating with other UN Agencies with interests in nutrition, including WHO, UNICEF, and ILO.

The work of the Nutrition Division since the last session of the Conference has been marked by orientation toward practical programs in the field and by preparation for development in line with the recommendations of FAO general and regional conferences, technical meetings, the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Nutrition, requests from governments, and from other international agencies. This tendency will become more important in the near future because of Special Fund projects, the progressive and continuous increase in the Technical Assistance projects, the increasing support from UNICEF to nutrition and home economic programs, and developments under the Freedom from Hunger Campaign. 2. The Committee noted with great satisfaction this rapid growth, it also noted and approved the fact that these activities are rightly carried out mainly in developing countries, that they are essentially within the role of FAO, and that they all contribute to raising levels of living and welfare in these countries. However, the expansion has been so rapid as to require the full-time attention of a very large part of the present staff. 3. The impact of such developments on the basic activities to be carried out under the regular program is creating some concern. The applied programs must be based on knowledge of food and nutrition conditions in the various regions and countries, as well as of requirements as assessed by scientific studies. Field projects involve more work at Headquarters in connection with recruiting, briefing and servicing the experts. Up to now, the increased workload resulting from the expansion of past activities, or the creation of new activities likely to lead soon to actual projects, has been carried out without extra personnel.

Extractions: The health of our nation's children is in jeopardy. The prevalence of overweight among young people has doubled in recent decades. Many children are physically inactive. Also, a large proportion of children's energy intake comes from the tip of the Food Guide Pyramid (i.e., fats, oils, and sweets). This reflects a poor dietary pattern resulting in nutrient deficiencies. Declining consumption of milk among children has adverse nutritional and health consequences. Milk is a nutrient dense food rich in calcium and an important source of other essential nutrients. Low intake of milk is associated with poor bone health and increased risk of osteoporosis and other chronic conditions in later years.

Players may have to run quickly to the ball or scene of play, perform maneuvers involving strength, and execute skills involving cognitive function and fine motor control. Nutritional strategies could impact these physical and mental components of performance. Exercise-science and sports-nutrition organizations have produced position stands or recommendations about the intake of fluid and carbohydrate during exercise. Typically these guidelines target the requirements of sports involving prolonged continuous exercise, such as running or cycling, and are based on research of such exercise. How well the guidelines meet the needs of team-sport athletes is not clear, because the fluid and carbohydrate needs of team players differ from those of endurance athletes in several ways. Table 1 identifies some of the unique characteristics of team sports with regard to fluid balance.
