NDGA HOME The final report is not quite yet available to the public, but its contentscan be described. In brief, the report says that spatial literacy needs to be a significant component within the American K-12 education system. It also says that GIS is a powerful tool that can support spatial literacy and assist American students, but some things need to happen for GIS to be used with substantial impact. One of the first public discussions of the final report will happen at the ESRI Education User Conference ("EdUC"; see www.esri.com/educ). On Saturday,July 23, from 10:30-12:00, Roger Downs and Tony deSouza (the two primary authors) will report on the project and the document. There will be plenty of time for discussion. For those who talk about the value of geography and the power of GIS, it will be hugely important to have a document from such an august body extolling the importance of spatial literacy and the potential of GIS for education. If you attend the EdUC, be sure to join us at this session on Saturday! If you will not be with us, be sure you visit the second website above to order your copy of the final report!
