Forbush High's Red Team and the Forbush Elementary Clay Busters won national championships while nine individuals won individual awards in categories such as archery, muzzleloading, orienteering, shotgun, wildlife identification, and responsibility exam. Our six schools are located in a small, mostly rural county in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The Polk County Board of Education has established and follows a long-range facility plan. Polk County High School, built in 1992, has a recently enlarged cafeteria, new field house and fine arts wing. A consolidated middle school for grades 6-8 is under construction, along with renovations to other schools. High school students may take Advanced-Placement English, science, history and math courses. They may earn college credits before graduation and also participate in sports, clubs, music and drama. Every school has a fully equipped and staffed computer lab and media center. Four year old children may attend one of the model preschool programs in each of our elementary schools. Resources are available to all children, from three year-old handicapped to academically gifted, who qualify for special education.
