Admission Program information for the 2006 course will be available soon. The information below is based on the program offered in 2005, and does not reflect changes to faculty and course content. For today's senior executives, understanding the flow of financial resources is crucial. Such an understanding is needed daily, whether it is used to obtain funding, anticipate trends, or evaluate company performance. Senior executives from nonfinancial backgrounds often are called upon to make decisions based on modern financial controls, and they must have the know-how to asses the output of the financial systems that have a significant impact on their professional responsibilities. The Finance for Senior Executives program provides business leaders with a deeper understanding of corporate finance as practiced by today's best run companies. Designed specifically for nonfinancial executives, this intensive program approaches the subject of finance as it relates to the corporation as a whole. Participants develop an understanding of how to read and react to capital markets, identify sources of system stress and maintain financial equilibrium, as well as evaluate market strategies and rank investment proposals. Most important, they acquire the tools and insights necessary to meet both their own professional goals and the larger goals of the organizations that they serve.

Called "Account-Ability: Critical Financial Communications Skills for Today's Practitioner," the program includes two one-day seminars June 19 and Aug. 21 in New York City at Syracuse University's Lubin House on how to read and interpret basic financial statements. A second part of the program, which demonstrates how to become a more strategic thinker and leader within an organization, will run Aug. 22-23 at the same location. "It has never been more important for public relations practitioners to know all they can about corporate finance," said Reed Bolton Byrum, APR, 2003 PRSA president and CEO. "At a time when public relations professionals are trying to get their organizations to be more open and candid about business and financial practices, they're also faced with new and dramatic constraints on what corporations can say and when they can say it."
