From 1994 to 1999 he worked in the Forestry department of at the FAO in Rome on social and institutional issues in forestry including participation and pluralism as well as providing field backstopping to programs on Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. He has lived in Africa for over 15 years working on rural development and natural resource management programs particularly in West Africa. Dr. Andretta is a cultural anthropologist who received her B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
