Should I Join A New Processing Cooperative? A new venture processing cooperative is requesting a $200 common stock, or membership, North Dakota State University Extension service. EC895 http://www.ext.nodak.edu/extpubs/agecon/farmmgt/eb67w.htm
Extractions: Quentin Burdick Center For Cooperatives A renewed interest in cooperative agri-businesses is sweeping across the Northern Plains. These new cooperatives are structured differently than traditional farm supply and elevator cooperatives. The new venture cooperatives are focused on processing and marketing processed products rather than supplying production inputs or marketing raw agricultural commodities. They require producer members to supply raw commodities for processing through marketing contracts, and tie the amount of commodity supplied to the purchase of equity stock in the cooperative. The new cooperatives are selling enough equity stock shares, and related delivery rights, to meet the cooperatives' financial needs and ensure peak use of processing facilities. A combination of factors make the decision about becoming a member in a new venture cooperative unique and complex. This publication is designed to identify the key aspects of that decision by asking five questions. They are:

Blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibilities near the ground and quickly cover plowed pavement, including in the mid-Atlantic where accumulating snow is forecast to cease Sunday morning. With these gusty winds, temperatures already well below average across much of the East will feel even lower and dangerously so. Extractions: Mail to the editor Faculty members across campus have been asked to read this message to their classes today. The message comes from leaders of the Federation of Students; the request to read it comes from Catharine Scott, associate provost (human resources and student services), and the deans. Tuesday's disturbing events are still foremost in our thoughts and likely will be for some time. It is important to realize that we are here in Waterloo together, all sharing the same emotions of this experience: shock, fright, worry and anger. We ask that all members of the UW community not bring this anger to bear on those who were not involved in the attacks. Many Muslim students have been made to feel uncomfortable and afraid both on and off campus by remarks made to them. Please remember that they are no more associated with Tuesday's events than you are and spreading hatred only helps the terrorists to achieve their goals. In difficult times such as these, we must work to build our community rather than help others to tear it down through fear and speculation.

Pataki today announced $19.7 million in funding for the support of 19 tobacco cessation centers and 74 community-based organizations to prevent and reduce tobacco use across the state. The programs further strengthen the State's efforts to help smokers combat their addiction and reduce the prevalence of smoking among New Yorkers. "We remain steadfast in our commitment to help more New Yorkers live longer, healthier and happier lives," Governor Pataki said. "The expansion of tobacco cessation centers is an important part of our historic and continuing effort to help smokers quit. As many smokers or former smokers know, it's extremely difficult to kick the habit. The expansion of these centers will give even more New Yorkers the help they need to quit once and for all." "Community-based organizations are critical partners in providing the public with the information they need concerning the dangers of smoking. Our continued financial commitment to them is another component of our comprehensive effort to help more New Yorkers understand those dangers so they can avoid the use of tobacco altogether," the Governor added.
