Extractions: TrackBack Print E-mail TalkBack College students will have more than their fair share of choices when picking their PCs for the upcoming school yearassuming their universities are copacetic with the systems they haul to campus. PC makers such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Sony and Toshiba are cramming entertainment features into their laptops and desktops in order to offer a one-stop shop for productivity, entertainment and communications. Apple Computer also has entertainment features built into its Mac OS X operating system, which powers its iBooks, PowerBooks and various desktop models. However, universities aren't nearly as multimedia-happy as PC makers and take a more conservative tone when establishing PC purchasing guidelines for students. Many are recommending laptops over desktops, and several are asking for the more established Windows XP Professional OS or Mac OS X over the next-generation operating systems. News.context

History Of William Paterson University In April, 1937, the name of the school was changed to the new jersey State Teacher s a stateof-the-art language lab and a humanities media center; http://ww2.wpunj.edu/aboutus/history.cfm
Extractions: From its beginnings as a normal school in the city of Paterson to its current designation as a comprehensive university, The William Paterson University of New Jersey has been dedicated to providing educational opportunities and service to the community. The institution was founded in 1855 as the Paterson City Normal School in response to the growing demand for professional preparation of teachers-in-service in the emerging free public schools of Paterson. By 1875, the normal school had added a one-year teacher training curriculum for high school graduates seeking to become teachers, which was later increased to two years. In 1910, the school, which had changed location several times, was moved to the brand-new School #24 on 19th Avenue and East 22nd Street in Paterson, where it remained for 40 years. With a growing realization that the responsibility for teacher preparation should rest with the state, local educators urged the state to take over the Paterson City Normal School. In 1923 the State Legislature passed an act to establish the New Jersey State Normal School at Paterson. Its sole aim, as later described in the 1929-30 catalog, was "to develop a well-trained teacher for service in the schools of the State."

Extractions: Performing October 1. Jazz at the Berrie Center presents The Loston Harris Trio on Saturday, October 1 at 8 p.m. in the Sharp Theater on the campus of Ramapo College of New Jersey. Loston comes to the Berrie Center from Bemelman's Bar in the Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan, the current musical home for this jazz vocalist/pianist. Harris blends traditional jazz riffs, gospel and blues with his own unique stylings. A protege of Ellis Marsalis, father of the famed Marsalis jazz family, Harris is reminiscent of another Marsalis protege - Harry Connick Jr. Harris was a percussionist throughout his early studies, switching to piano on the advice of Marsalis. The vocalist/pianist performed as a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, led by multiple-Grammy winner Wynton Marsalis Dr. Ting Gong, a professor of political science at Ramapo College of New Jersey, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research at City University of Hong Kong. Gong plans to give lectures and develop curriculum at City University. In addition, the professor will conduct a research project on controlling corruption. Gong explains that Hong Kong was once an area of epidemic corruption. In response to public complaints, the government created an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) that took tough measures to fight for corruption control. "Through effective policies and viable institutional mechanisms, Hong Kong has made itself one of the rare cases in controlling corruption with its success being acknowledged worldwide," notes Gong.
