Last year close to 30 percent of the school budgets were rejected by voters. Even though New Jersey's ever rising property taxes for local education are a hot button issue just 15 percent of voters are expected to turn out. The lack of voter interest is not just reflected in the small number of cast ballots but also in the dearth of school board candidates' so most incumbents run unopposed. Historically that phenomenon has set the stage for successful last minute write-in campaigns. Polls must be open at least from 5pm to 9pm but some distirct may opt to be open longer.
