Extractions: School of Medicine Home Reynolds Center reynolds center Home Summary About Projects ... Links Donald Worthington Reynolds In 1954 Reynolds established the Reynolds Foundation. At his death the group was sold and a bequest of $804 million provided for the foundation's current endowment. The foundation is fully separate from, and unrelated to, the media group. A board of trustees administers the foundation, which provides generous grants to a variety of programs, including community service centers, studies in aging and quality of life, and cardiovascular research. Cardiovascular research is of crucial concern in the United States, yet compared with other areas in the health sciences, cardiovascular research receives relatively little funding. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, with more than 2,600 dying of the disease each day, or almost a million per year - more than the next seven leading causes of death combined. Often atherosclerosis is involved, a form of heart disease that results from years of cholesterol build-up in the lining of the blood vessels that nourish the heart. This leads to heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and poor circulation. Combating cardiovascular disease will require: new approaches to identifying and educating those at risk; encouraging them to change their dietary and exercise habits; and altering their daily lives in other ways. It will also require identifying new therapies, such as drugs, devices, and gene therapy, that can make significant differences, and educating patients how and when to use them appropriately and economically.

Extractions: The KLVX Educational Media Center (EMC) is proud to announce the launch of a new, open-captioned media lending library. In an unprecedented alliance with the National Association of the Deaf and the Captioned Media Program (CMP), the EMC has become the sole distributor of captioned media for the benefit of the deaf and hard of hearing (HH) community in the state of Nevada. This new library of over 4,000 items is a great asset to, not only the teachers and students in the Clark County School District (CCSD), but also, deaf/HH individuals throughout the state. The Department of Education (DoE), restricts the use of the CMP collection to deaf/HH individuals, their instructors, or anyone using it as a direct benefit to the deaf/HH community such as an interpreter . So, CCSD teachers and staff may only borrow these materials as long as at least one student viewing the material is deaf/HH . Additionally, deaf/HH individuals throughout the state of Nevada have full access to the catalog, and will receive the CMP materials free of charge via the USPS. The CMP materials in the KLVX collection are listed on our website with a "C" designation in our searchable library and are easy to find: CMP titles have a "C" before the title number. For example the title "1914 - 1918: World War I (C03201)" indicates a CMP collection holding.
