Extractions: showNetworkBanner(1); var story_id = 811017; Home View By Tracy Woodson Published: Sunday, November 14, 2004 My personal experience with the Nevada school system comes from a parent's point of view. I am the parent of three daughters, all of whom have some form of learning disability. The Nevada school system has continuously fallen short and failed them. Additionally, the Nevada school system is a huge disappointment to many similarly minded parents with a shared interest in their children's futures. We are left to tolerate burnt-out, inadequate teachers, who have invested time and money into a college education, sacrificing four or more years of their lives, only to walk into a classroom and fail miserably. What a waste of a degree! The impressionable, young minds of our children are at the mercy of these pitiful excuses for teachers, and are often left absorbing nothing but their teachers' personal garbage. What a sad way to introduce our future into what we adults like to call "the real world." The children, the true victims, are left unprepared to deal with reality. How can they ever imagine what the American dream is, or how to achieve it, when they're left uneducated and unable to even fill out a job application for McDonalds? The Nevada school system is such a scary place, not only to us parents, but soon to the general public as well. This is, after all, our future generation that I'm speaking of. The children are our future, and they are very unprepared. A degree is not enough to qualify a teacher as competent; a teacher chosen to help raise our future also needs to be compassionate, understanding, and inspiring. Without inspiration and a solid foundation, our children will continue to spiral downhill at a rapid pace, with no end in sight. The Nevada school system has failed to make the proper investments in our children and thus have left us with an unstable future of our own.
