Washoe County School Transition The University and Community College System of nevada, the Washoe County part of their workday without direct supervision from special education staff. http://repc.unr.edu/UCED/washoeTransition/
Extractions: The University and Community College System of Nevada, the Washoe County School District, and the Nevada University Center for Excellence in Disabilities entered into an agreement that permits WSCD to utilize facilities at UNR to conduct a transition program for special education students who are 18 to 22 years of age. The purpose of this program is to provide work and social experiences to the special education students in an age appropriate inclusive setting. Participating students will learn valuable work skills by being placed in non-paid employment training sites in various departments on campus. The students will also have the opportunity to improve their social skills by interacting with UNR students. The structure of the campus job-training component of the Student Transition Program is such that students will be expected to eventually travel across campus independently and train at job sites for part of their workday without direct supervision from special education staff. Before being placed into the program, Washoe County School District personnel complete a checklist and answer pertinent questions that provide information that helps to ensure the students' safety, acceptance, and success on campus. The job-training and community based components of this program are designed to provide experiences that will assist students in learning skills needed for transitioning to post-school life. Job skills, mobility skills and community access skills will be taught and practiced in natural environments outside the classroom setting. Instruction will take place at various sites on the UNR campus and in the community.

PBS Nevada consultation, and technical support to educators, agency staff and families . University of nevada Reno College of education/MS285 Reno, NV 89557 http://repc.unr.edu/UCED/pbsNevada/
Extractions: Positive Behavior Support-Nevada (PBS-NV) is a statewide program that helps families, agencies, and schools to support individuals with disabilities and challenging behavior. PBS is a process for using evidence-based practices for assessing challenging behavior in the context of a full understanding of the personâs life circumstances. PBS-NV is sponsored by The Task Force for the Fund for a Healthy Nevada, The University Center for Excellence in Disabilities at UNR, and participating Nevada organizations. PBS-NV provides training, consultation, and technical support to educators, agency staff and families. PBS-NV works toward sustainable lifestyle gains. Behavior challenges do not develop over night, and it too takes time to bring about behavior change. PBS-NV works with those who provide support (e.g. family members, teachers, community services staff) in devising a comprehensive behavior support plan. Participating schools and community organizations are also supported in providing meaningful and effective assistance.
