Elliott Elementary School third graders joined forces late last school year to form a city of their own, Golden City, complete with a newspaper and restaurant. Children from two Elliott classes Tracy Ernstmeyer's English Language Learners and Nancy Belkas special needs class worked together for five weeks to learn about the different aspects of creating a community. "It was great to see all the students work together," Belka said. "They brought up ideas and voted on everything." The students began their work by starting a newspaper called the Golden City Gazette, filled with articles and illustrations from the students.
