Missing &Exploited Children Clearinghouse According to FBI statistics, missing children reports in 2001 dropped to DCJS and National Center for missing and Exploited children NCMEC web sites; http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/missing/
Extractions: Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force NYS Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse 1-800-FIND-KID Annual Reports indicate that the number of missing child cases (runaways, familial abductions, acquaintance abductions, stranger abductions) reported to law enforcement agencies dropped from 28,000 in 1997 to 22,000 in 2004. While this news is encouraging, it is evident that vigorously promoting child safety will always be necessary. Parents and guardians play the most prominent role, by talking to their children in a calm and reasonable manner, being careful not to over-emphasize the frightening details of what might happen if safety guidelines are not followed. It is important to strike a balance between avoiding the issue and instilling a sense of fear in your child. The goal is to instill a sense of caution.

Extractions: Using ArcView 3.2, a serial killer/child abductor's residences are buffered against children recovered deceased. Three children have been tied to serial killers using DNA. A 2002 national study released by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) estimated approximately 204,000 family abductions took place in 1999. Forty-four percent of these involved the concealment of the child. In 76 percent, it was the intent of the abductor to prevent contact with the other parent; in 82 percent, the abductor intended to permanently alter custody. The study also estimated 1,682,900 episodes of runaway/thrownaway children took place that year. Fewer cases, but more ruthless and violent, involve those children taken by strangers who are sexually molested and killed and those children who go missing without a trace. www.missingkids.com

Extractions: One of the most important is to show them that you love them, not just by saying , but actually showing them that you love them. It is so important for a child to know that he is loved. I work for a law enforcement agency and get so many calls of Children being taken or running away and it is because they think they are not loved and go elsewhere to try to find it. One of many ways that you can protect your child is to tell them to not talk to strangers and if someone they do not know approaches them, tell them to start screaming "I do not know this person", or "This is not my Mom or Dad". What that will do is attract attention to them and many people will come to see what is going on. God forbid something like this should happen to anyone but the first chance that you get, take recent pictures of your child and also have them fingerprinted. Most of your local police agencies will do that for you at no cost to you. Keep them in a safe place so that if something like this does happen you have the information to give to the Police Department. It will help them to get the information out to help find your child, and put out the information a lot faster if you have everything they need. There is many more ways that you can protect your Child, but most of all is to exercise good common sense when it comes to your children to Protect them.
Extractions: 'Cyberspace,' the 'Web,' the 'Net,' the 'Information Highway'" Whatever its called, millions of people are now going online to e x c h a n g e electronic mail (E-mail) and instant messages; participate in chat groups; post and read messages in newsgroups, which are sometimes called bulletin boards; surf the world wide web; and many other online activities. Children are no exception in fact they are more likely to be online than adults. Personal computers are no longer the only method used for accessing the Internet. Children can go online from personal computers at home, a friends house, in school, a library, club, or cafe. Many game consoles can be connected to the Internet and used for chatting and other online interaction. It is also possible to access the Internet on mobile devices such as cellular telephones and other handheld devices. In other words children dont have to be in the company of responsible adults to use the Internet. To get online you can sign up with an Internet Service Provider (ISP), which will provide you with access to web sites and other areas of the Internet. Most people get online by using a modem to connect their computer to a telephone line but an increasing number of families are using high-speed broadband connections such as Direct Subscriber Line (DSL) or cable modems. Most cellular telephones sold today come with a web browser, E-mail, and some form of instant or short messaging system (SMS).

Extractions: to the Land of the Lost! It is a sad state of affairs when it comes to missing children. You can forget about getting help from law enforcement or Government agencies, unless your rich and famous. When it comes to parental abduction its even worse. Without a custody order from the courts, you can forget about any help from anywhere. Well I am very greatful for the help I have received from all the missing children agencies. These people are all wonderful and have been extremely helpful in educating me and aiding in the search of my missing children. It was a poster, distributed by one of these agencies that was seen in a Walmart that led to almost finding my children. So when you see these agencies doing their fund raisers, know that the money is going for an awesome cause and please do your part to contribute. Thank you! Please take a few minutes to check out
