It is charged by the Minnesota Legislature to bring the arts into all K-12 education. Its mission is innovative public education, centered in the arts. With over 13 years of effective leadership, the Center is held up nationwide as an example of what is possible in the field of arts and education. A thirty-acre campus in Golden Valley, a suburb of Minneapolis, houses the Center's four main components: the Arts High School (AHS), the Professional Development Institute (PDI),the Research, Assessment and Curriculum Division (RAC), and the PCAE Library. We invite you to explore our website to learn more about the important work taking place on our campus and around the state. The Arts High School (AHS) is a tuition-free, public school, and is open to Minnesota resident students. The school accepts 310 students into grades 11 and 12, each majoring in one of six art areas: Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Media Arts, and Literary Arts. Academic courses are also key components of the Arts High School education. Information sessions about the Arts High School are held throughout the year. Extractions: I.S.D. 31's Transportation Department participated in the 14th Annual United Way Chili Cook-off/Campaign Kick-off on Wednesday, September 21st. This year's cook-off theme was "Shoot for the Moon." Greg Liedl and Jeff Erickson, dressed as George and Elroy Jetson, served chili to many of the 500 attendees. Vice Campaign Co-Chairs Tom and Kim Kusler reported that the 11 Pacesetter businesses raised $143,691.30, which is over a third of the United Way's campaign goal. Building Referendum About our Schools Watertown-Mayer is proud of its quality school system, which provides excellent academic and extracurricular programs for students in Mayer, Minnetrista, Watertown, and neighboring areas. The district is organized into three schools: an elementary school for pre-kindergarten through grade 4, a middle school that includes grades 5-8, and a high school with grades 9-12. At the elementary level, Watertown-Mayer has made every effort to maintain effective class sizes for an optimal learning environment. The curriculum reflects sensitivity to cultural and gender diversity, as well as the remediation or enrichment needs of students. All students participate in physical education, music and computer literacy programs, which are taught by licensed specialists. Parents of kindergarten students may participate in either an all-day/every-day fee-based program or a three-day per week program. Project Discovery accommodates developmentally delayed preschoolers. The middle school emphasizes the development of the whole child and includes a wide variety of exploratory experiences that help children develop more mature interests, academic capabilities and athletic skills. The middle school curriculum features special education programs, computer skill development opportunities, integrated curricular units, advisory experiences, exploratory days and numerous support and remediation opportunities. Co-curricular activities include: band, choir, drama, athletics, student government and community service projects. A team-teaching model, which allows for coordinated planning and intervention, supports these successful programs.
