One or two years of study are taken at Minnesota State Community and Technical College to complete both general education requirements and some major field requirements before transferring to a four-year college. Students are urged to check program guides, available in the information rack outside the Student Services Office, for their chosen field of study. The counselors at MSCTC are committed to working with all of our students to ensure that the courses and degree programs selected are transferable to four year colleges and universities. Students who plan to transfer are strongly encouraged to set career/major goals early in order to maximize the transferability of the courses selected at MSCTC. The Associate in Arts degree (AA) is intended primarily for students who plan to transfer to another college to complete a bachelorÕs degree. It can be considered the first two years of a four-year degree program. The AA degree is a general liberal arts degree and no specific major is listed in conjunction with the degree. However, many students choose to concentrate in a particular field of study as preparation for a planned major at a four-year college or university. At least 40 of the 64 credits must be taken within the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MNTC). Any student who anticipates transferring to a four-year school should plan an appropriate program (both general education and major requirements) with one of the counselors prior to, and during, enrollment at MSCTC.

Contact us Asbestos is a mineral fiber that can cause scarring of lung tissue (asbestosis) and inflammation of the lung cavity. Asbestos exposure also increases the incidence of lung cancer and other cancers. Due to its strength, heat resistance and chemical properties, asbestos was used in a wide variety of products and materials. Scientific and medical concerns about exposure to asbestos and government regulation of the use of asbestos, have caused industries to produce and use much fewer asbestos-containing materials since the late 1970s. In general, the more asbestos a person is exposed to, the greater the risk of developing an asbestos related disease. Exposure to asbestos occurs through inhalation of airborne microscopic fibers. Airborne asbestos can be present during renovation and demolition of buildings and building products. Residential and nonresidential buildings can contain asbestos materials. Untrained individuals performing asbestos-related work can expose themselves, other individuals in the building, or their own families by having their clothing or skin contaminated with asbestos fibers. Asbestos work is regulated by the state to ensure the public is protected. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) specifies work practices to identify and manage asbestos and to safely remove, encapsulate, or enclose asbestos-containing materials. MDH licenses asbestos contractors and certifies asbestos workers, site supervisors, building inspectors, management planners, and project designers to ensure trained people perform asbestos work or management. MDH also issues permits for all asbestos-related work projects.
