Extractions: Questions/Comments Private sector organizations, ranging from consultants to the media to information service companies, are vital to meeting America's needs for weather information. These organizations, often referred to as the Industrial Meteorology (IM) community, together serve as critical intermediaries to make National Weather Service (NWS) information available to all and to provide specialized services outside the NWS mission. This part of the NWS web site indexes information of interest to the IM community. The NWS is considering termination of its listings of Commercial Weather Providers Serving the US and Commercial Weather Vendor Web Sites Serving the US. Extractions: Leading the expedition was fifty-two year old Legend of Honor member Joseph Nicolas Nicollet, an eminent French astronomer and mathematician, and foremost surveyor and mapmaker of his day. Nicollet, had been the protoge of Laplace, and is recognized in the last vol. of Mecanique Celeste as an observer of comets, and for his work on the great map of France. At the time of the revolution of 1830, Nicollet was astronomer at the Bureau of Longitudes at the Royal Observatory in Paris. Financially ruined by the revolution, he came to America, where he became associated with Rudolf Hassler of the U. S. Coast Survey. In 1839, J. R. Poinsett, then Secretary of the Department of War, requested of Nicollet that he write an essay on Meteorological Observations. The essay was published by the Corps of Topographical Engineers. It is primarily a collection of questions and suggestions of topics to be studied. On pp 6-7 of the 1848 Geographical Memoir is an entirely current description on the meteorological dynamics of the western states.

Northwest Airlines Providing weather forecasting products for the aviation industry, including specialized turbulence and thunderstorm forecasts. http://www.nwa.com/weather
Extractions: Current Promotions NWA Products Business Services CorpNet ... Event Travel Northwest Airlines Meteorology is known throughout the airline industry for excellence in turbulence forecasting. We provide flight crews, dispatchers, planners and ground crews with the information needed to keep the passengers and crew informed and safe from various weather hazards. Through our innovative TP (Turbulence Plot) Program, information about clear air turbulence, wind shears, thunderstorms, mountain waves and volcanic ash is uplinked directly to the cockpit by Northwest Airlines meteorologists 24 hours a day every day of the year. Meteorologists prepare upper air weather depictions that forecast possible areas of clear air turbulence and mountain wave activity. This gives the flight crews and dispatchers the extra time necessary to reroute traffic around these weather hazards, which are often difficult or impossible to see while in flight. Surface depictions are also prepared and updated throughout the day showing the position of fronts and forecasting possible thunderstorm activity. Discover the products and services provided by Northwest Airlines Meteorology to meet your aviation weather forecasting needs.
