Extractions: Alligator OVERVIEW: Luis Jimenez was born in 1940 in El Paso, Texas. His fiberglass sculptures and mixed media drawings depict boarder land people and the struggles of their lives. As the son of an illegal immigrant, the artist has first hand experience with much of the subject matter he depicts. His work has been described as stereotypical. However, the artist uses Chicano stereotypes to redeem aspects of boarder lands' history that have been overlooked or ignored by more traditional sources. Jimenez was exposed to art and design in the sign painting and neon-crafting workshop of his father. In this setting, Jimenez received experience with diverse art media and popular imagery. He first studied architecture before turning to two and three dimension works of art. His early training is evident in the dynamic use of line in is drawings.

Students examine diversity statistics of Canadian newspapers and respond to an article about the lack of diversity in Canadian newsrooms. The diverse programming options offered by satellite radio come at a time when the programming offered by "over-the-air" broadcast radio outlets is becoming increasingly less diverse and more tightly formatted as a result of a 1996 federal law known as the Telecommunications Act.

This lesson deals with Business Communication and is relevant to the following specifications: The lesson can be flexible in terms of its outcomes. The two events highlighted can be used as the basis for a discussion or can be used for a case study approach with a written response required from students. If the latter is chosen a suggested marking regime is included below. The two events - especially the Rio case, have been well documented and there will be no shortage of additional sources for research! The basis of both cases is that there has been a question about the communication methods used. In the Rio case, the problem could be the communication between the players and the FA - on the face of it the obvious one, but underlying the whole thing is the relationship between the FA and Manchester United especially given the moves in the share market over Manchester United at that time. The decision to release the name of Rio - at the heart of the players' objections, seemed to come from Manchester United rather than the FA! The players' stance was widely reported in the press as them 'boycotting the match'. It could be that the emphasis on this left little room for manoeuvre by both the FA and the players - any solution would make it look as though one or other had had to 'back down'. The subtleties of the purposes of the communication can be explored here - what is actually said may not always be what is meant! The target of the communication is also a key issue, press statements by businesses could be targeted at government, shareholders, consumers and other stakeholders but who it is
