Extractions: Accreditation and Certification The School of Education is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The B.A. in Elementary Education, second major in Secondary Education, Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), M.A. in Special Education: Learning Disabilities and Graduate Certificate in Teaching are approved by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC). The following secondary teaching fields are approved by NASDTEC: biology, chemistry, dance, drama, English, French, German, mathematics, physics, Spanish, and comprehensive social studies. Students interested in other subjects may be certified by the District of Columbia. Students admitted to graduate teacher education programs may be required to complete additional course work in order to be eligible for certification upon graduation. Students will be informed of additional requirements upon admission.
