For a child with delays in motor skills or perceptual or cognitive functioning, adapted toys and mobility and communication aids can help with maturation and development. In some cases, the Early Intervention Program can purchase the technology; in other cases, Medicaid, particularly the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program, which provides expanded services to children with disabilities under Medicaid, can purchase assistive technology.
