Extractions: INDEX: Many of the United States provide some form of intermediate service centers to support educators who are working on state reform initiatives. In Illinois these are called Regional Offices of Education. In Michigan these are called Intermediate School Districts. In that case, ISDs have boundaries that overlap regular school districts and have their own taxing authority. In New York and Colorado these agencies are called BOCES which stands for Board of Cooperative Educational Services. Texas has 20 Education Service Center Regions. If you don't know how to access assistance from these agencies, click here to link to the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) which can connect you to the state board of education in your state. You should be able to find out there if such agencies are in your state. The only USA exception is Hawaii which has one school district for the entire state and so, the state provides the assistance directly.

Extractions: Return to Mentoring Information Categories List The author of this web site has been keeping track of state-level mentoring programs for years. During that time I have seen that it's: 1. Difficult to draw conclusions about the sum of state-level novice teacher programming, because it is in constant flux 2. Possible to look at state level activity from several different perspectives, because of the various and complex themes that weave through beginning teacher support systems. This report takes one view point in presenting and analyzing the patterns in state-wide mentoring and induction programming. That approach views mentoring on a continuum in which assistance of novice teachers is at one end of the continuum and assessment of novice teachers is on the other end. Necessarily, that perspective "colors" how this information is presented and analyzed. What is presented here is: A chart summarizing some of the studies and illustrating the changing picture described above, plus references to all the studies I found.

Ed. 1998 Joanne sought some financial support for her take-home reading program and they responded wholeheartedly by offering to match two dollars for every one she and her students raised! Several months, many bake sales, and thousands of pennies later, the goal was met. The Missions assistant superintendent, Jackie Davidson, spent a day visiting the classroom and meeting all the eager readers. At the end of the day, Ms. Davidson reflected that "this little corner of the world is a better place because a dedicated woman is working hard to make a real difference in the lives of her students." WELCOME We wish to welcome the following new staff members: SUMNER MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL Sean has a bachelor degree from Farmington. He is currently working on a master degree in education. He graduated from Central Aroostook High School. He was a substitute for Presque Isle High School last year. His subject area is math and business economics.
